Do You Label Your Clubs?

If not, you should!

Here's a site that I've used a few times for high quality personalized shaft labels.

You get a sheet of (20 I think) labels for $2.50. They call it "free", but you pay for shipping. I've used these labels for years, it's nice to have your sticks (and rangefinder) unobtrusively ID'd. I got a club back once before my round was over, it was in my league and the guy knew me. Believe me they help.

These are really heavy duty weatherproof tags. They have a line of advertising on them, but it is positioned so you can cut it off prior to installation if you want.

On Mine I just have:

Name
Cell Number
REWARD IF FOUND
THANKS!

I don't know is an address is relevant.

That's all.

I have no affiliations with the site, It's just a really good deal.

I've been thinking of labeling them with the loft and lie specs (since they are custom it makes it easier to have them checked/adjusted as needed) and maybe even my yardages.

I get pretty crazy about how my clubs are positioned in my bag so i would be hard pressed to lose one... But i like the idea of the loft and my yardages with them... at least while im getting used to these new irons...

I registered my Callaway irons on their website and they send you free labels for doing it so they should be arriving soon.

Why would you label the yardages? They may change in time and should be easy enough to remember in the head.

I don't label my clubs, but have thought about doing it. Thanks for the tip on the website Mr3Putt, looks good, they are even shipping internationally.

I got a few PM's saying there was no link in the original post. Actually the word "link" was the link.

Anyway, here's the link.... https://www.pinhighinc.com/pinhighin...els/design.asp

I think labelling with your yardages may be illegal but I'm not sure. I did so when I first took up golf 4 years ago and was told so but I never bothered to look it up. Love the idea of labelling all the other info though.

Mr3putt,

Thanks man. I need to do this and you reminded me of that. Well worth it and I have had a club returned years back that I left on a greenside. I was out of town and the guy called me. I had to drive over an hour, but I would never got that club back had it not been labeled. Cheap insurance.

Yes, each of my clubs is labeled with name, address, phone. Made them from ordinary Avery peel and stick filing labels made with a MS Word template and printed on my inkjet printer. Then I wrap a layer of scotch tape around that to protect from weather. However, they do smear or get worn more readily than I want, so I am going to try the referenced shaft label site, and thanks to the OP for that. I have had clubs returned twice when I left one on the course, so it is worth doing. Besides, when a fellow player notices the label, he thinks you are smart

Dave Pelz recommends it in his Short Game bible, he states that it is perfectly legal.

    • At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.
    • That sounds like a small sample size issue. What if the PGA tour event he was trying to get into just happened to fit his game perfectly? Also, he could just be playing hot right now. I’ll put this in the wait-and-see category.
    • I've used a construction laser for years. Far less expensive than the PuttAim laser.
    • True, but as 15 year olds go, he has a much better chance of getting there than any of the rest of them. Kid can flat out play. He almost Monday'd into a PGA tour event a few weeks ago too. Missed in a playoff.
    • I'd bet against him having much success as a pro, because of, you know… the odds. You don't want to be the best 15-year-old in the game. You want to be the best 25-year-old in the game.
