Okay, I have a set of Callaway X-22's and my PW stops at 45* and the first Wedge I have is 56* (leaving a gap of 11* for the mathematically challenged). So I have two options and was wondering which of the two you would choose:

(A) I buy a matching Callaway X-22 Gap Wedge (51*) for $75-86

or

(B) I buy a 50* Titleist Vokey spin milled wedge for about $115.

I am leaning toward B even though it may cost $40 more because I plan on eventually getting a 54* & 58* Vokey as my HC lowers and doing away with my current 56* and 60*

How about a 50* X-Forged gap wedge?

Go with the matching gap wedge to keep continuity with the set. You are going to be hitting it from the fairway for full shots when your PW is too much, it's good to keep the same feel.

Yeah, you should've bought the X-22s through the gap wedge. Most people will avoid hitting a full sand wedge, whereas hitting a gap wedge is easier than knocking down a 9i or PW. I hit my gap wedge out of the fairway all the time; I'm happy it feels identical to the rest of my irons.

I'd get a Vokey SW and X-22 GW

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

Well, by buying them without the Gap wedge I saved around $140 on the set so even buying the wedge separate I still save money.

Seems like everyone is saying to buy the matching Gap wedge

I agree with that!

When you plan on getting new irons, then save the extra to get the Wedge set you want. IMHO it makes a big difference. Once you get new irons, you have to get used to their feel, so learning the feel of new wedges isn't too far off.

Id go with the Callie. IMO, its not worth spending the extra money for a Vokey. All you are paying for is a name.

I don't know about the paying for the name because the Vokey wedges are amazing but I am more concerned about lowering my HC first and then getting a 54/58 or 56/62 combo.

I'd go with the callaway gap wedge. I plan on dropping my vokey and cleveland wedges for a 52* callaway myself. Ever since I got my 58*, I don't hit the 50* or 54* that much anymore. Makes room for an extra long iron anyway (which has been sitting at home since I got my set).

Crap, looks like I'm spending another 80 bucks today!

I have a GW that's part of my iron set and because I use it for full shots from the fairway it makes more sense than getting a specialist wedge.

I'd agree with going to a 54 & 58 combo in the specialist wedges...these can be Vokeys, Clevelands CG12 or CG14 or 588s, or many, many others. With the specialist wedges, its about how much you practice and become familiar with them and not who they are made by that determines if they are "good" wedges i.e. its the Indian and not the arrow.

My set stops at PW and then I've got 2 vokeys. I don't regret it. Now that i have it, its easier to get used to and it's pretty consistent.

I got the X-22 4 thru A wedge, then ordered the 3 iron, S and L wedge to complete the set. Nice to have a matched set and they hit great.
