How many of you guys take divots and do you take a divot with all clubs or just short irons? When you take a divot, is it a big chunk of dirt or can you just see where you brushed the ground?

I take a divot with pretty much everything (except woods or long irons off the tee).
Size and depth depend on a number of factors; what kind of shot do I want to hit, conditions of the course, lie, etc...

If the course is wet, I can take a good sized pelt, but average 8/9/PW divot is about 6" long. Given a good lie in the fairway and a normal full swing, my short irons are fairly uniform divots, mids a little smaller & shallower and long irons more just a pinch of turf.

Weapons of choice:
Irons/wedges: Titleist Tour Grind
Driver:Titleist 909D2
3 Wood: Tour Edge Exotic
Putter: Odyssey White Hot

I played a round today and managed to take divots most of the time on the fairways and roughs with irons and long hybrids.

My divots from good shots were about the size (and shape) of a typical computer mouse, as I have game-improvement-style irons, so there is more bounce and a wider sole. I was able to see dirt under the divot, but not too deep, except for a fat shot or two.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

i have an extremely steep swing so sometimes i take monster divots but mostly jest enough to take the grass out the dirt

the shorter the club i swing the bigger the divot... sometimes too big... but ive never been the one to take too many fat shots... my misses tend to thin... id be a greenskeepers best bud

I usually have a tiny divot with a 5 wood, slightly larger divts with a 4 and 5 iron, then half dollar bill divots with everythign else.


Man, clubs with the correct lie help so much. Hintety hint hint.

Those are about like mine. I hardly ever take up a big chunk. It is mainly like you said, enough to take the grass out of the dirt.
