I've played Prov1 since they came out, and my opinion is nothing has ever been even close as good. Now, my opinion but they have been caught. The Callaway ball Els and Phil are playing is solid, the Bridgestones are really good along with the Nike Blacks. But man the TP reds have made me switch, they are longer off the tee than either Prov1 and seem more durable. I'm truly amazed that a ball performs like this. I kept going back saying, "naw, there's no way they're better than Prov1" but they are.

And the cherry on top is Golfsmith is selling them 2 doz for $55! Like half off now

I also switched to the TP red. I was a pro v man from day one but the taylormade ball is a great switch for me. Im hitting it further and the spin suits my game and ball flight great. I will continue to play the TP red until something better comes along.

Hm. I never really considered Taylormade balls, but I have heard a few things that I never expected to hear. Not to mention... that's a heck of a price on a premium ball.

I'm curious as to what other ball(s) they might be akin to, as I am really still looking to find the "perfect" ball for me.

Cool. I'm anxious to hear you guys feedback. I'm stunned how good it is too, my brother is a PGA Pro so I demo equipment non-stop and I'm telling you the TP balls are the real deal.

My swing speed is about 108, and the TP is definitely longer for me and I have been testing the R9, 909, TP Red and ProV1 for almost two months now and the stats don't lie.

it's so so hard to believe for the first time in my life I will be teeing up something other than a ProV1 in tournament play. I gave ProV's so many chances to beat the TP's but it just couldn't. And although Titleist says the cover is more durable, my wedges beg to differ.

So, Im interested to hear feedback on this ball. Thanks fellas

My game has never been good enough to take full advantage of the tour premium balls. Every time I pull out a Pro V1, or a Nike Platinum or a Cally Tour i to play with I end up switching back to a 2 piece ball. Those ball performed, but not enough to justify the price. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago I found a TP Red LDP on the course so I decided to play it for the back 9 and shot my best score ever of +7. Every shot held the green and every pitch stopped just right where I had wanted it to. The thing that puts it over the top for me is how great the putts feel. The kicker is I've played an additional 2 rounds since then with the same ball that I found so the durability factor is above and beyond the other premium balls. The only bad thing is now I have a large batch of DT So/Lo (5 dozens), Nike Ignite (8 dozens), and Cally HX Tour 56 (6 dozens) that I don't know what to do with.

I have to agree. I have been playing the pro v1x for years. I got fitted for a set of Ping i10's about 2 months ago and they sent them to me with the wrong shafts. The guy at the pro shop gave me about 2 dozen of the TP Red's for screwing up. I was skeptical, but thought what the heck, their FREE! My playing partner who is usually even with me in driving distance was amazed. I was out driving him by 20 yards. He also plays the Pro v1x. The held greens pretty good also. I could not make them spin like the pro v1x's, but that is an easy thing to adjust too. I have never like any Taylormade balls, but these are the real deal.

To put it in perspective, it's really so ridiculous that thesandtrap.com is the only place I'm praising these balls so high. I'm seriously going to let everyone I play keep thinking Prov1's are still better, I don't want them to switch! They are that good. They are so much longer than the Prov1's it's blowing my mind. And they do everything a Prov1 does but better. short-sided next to the green is noticeably less spin than a Prov1 I do see

I have questions for both you guys, or really anyone who plays the TP red.

Canuck, you said the spin suits your game and the ball flight too. What were your ballflight/spin characteristics before?

I've finally found a ball (Bridgestone B330) that gives me the ball flight I like, even in wind, but I find I have too little spin on shots 50 yards and in and my par saves are suffering especially on the greenside shots. The ball reacts the way I want it to on all other shots except those short pitch shots/sand shots.

When you say green-side spin is noticeably less than the ProV1, does that mean that it is less spin than the ProV1, but still more than the ProV1x? Or does it mean that it gets less greenside spin than both of them?

The TP red is supposed to be equivalent to the ProV1 while the TP Black is more like the Prov1x.

The Prov1 spins a crazy amount The ProV1x spins a lot and I think it still rules only in greenside spin The TP red has less spin than both it feels like...but stats show its supposed to spin more than the x. but is perfect for my game and is so much longer than either for me, not even close. The premium ball feel is pretty identical too which is awesome. Im having no problems sticking greens and working my draw, so its a no brainer for me. I seriously challenge anyone who ballstriking well to play a sleeve, I have not been this stunned over a piece of equipment in a while. I thought it was impossible to improve the Prov1, but to surpass it is crazy. Its really like any other thing though, different swing speeds, games etc dictate what ball can maximize your game, and for me, TP Red is it hands down. This quote is from a review on thesandtrap.com
I've never imagined playing anything but a Titleist, but these balls have changed my mind. -Erik

Gotcha, thanks. I always went back and forth between the old ProV1 and old ProV1x, and was never really that comfortable with either, and I thought they both spun a little too much. So I haven't even tried the new ProV1 because the fact that they are touting even more spin just turns me off to it.

You're right, I could get completely different results, but I'm intrigued, and I'd really only be doing myself a disservice by not at least trying it... so I'm going to pick up a sleeve and give it a try. I can only hope I get similar results... if not, the search continues.

never played a tp red or black.. but my driver came with 2 dozen burner tp's and ive played a sleeve of them .. they are great balls for the price. i will probably finish off the rest when my bridgestone stock runs out...

my driving distance between the e5 and burner tp is the same... but the tp's seem to be alot straighter and higher launching...

There's a lot more to it than that. Since their first version, they've played around with them and now the Black spins more than the Red off the irons and whatever else.

They're not a 1:1 comparison at all. You can't say, with the current models, TP Red=V1, TP Black=V1x.
This quote is from a review on thesandtrap.com

I don't appreciate the way you've used my words to support your opinion. For one, that review was based on the previous generation of not only the TP Red/Black but the Pro V1/V1x. With the current models, I prefer the Titleist balls over the TaylorMade balls. The TPs are a close second - and further ahead than the Callaway or Srixons (etc.), but they're not the top dog to me, and given the choice, I still prefer the Pro V1x.

Please don't quote me out of context. The context in which I said that was May 19, 2006 and with the previous generation of both balls. I also didn't declare the TP balls to be "better" - just that they were basically in the same league - again, "really close." And I enjoyed that the TP Red/Black were almost interchangeable, unlike the Pro V1/V1x (which has a wider gap in performance characteristics between the two models).
