After a few years hiatus from golf, I'm taking advantage of the lack of practice by reconstructing my swing into something a bit more proper.

-I'm starting my back swing with my hands/arms going straight back
-I've got the spine tilt and turn rather than lean back going on
-when I start my back swing it's by sliding/twisting my hips forward while simultaneously dropping my right elbow and hands down "into the slot"
-my left leg is also straight just before impact while pulling the club through

I've always had a draw going on, but now when I'm making good contact I'm getting a beautiful right to left draw (tears welling up in my eyes). The problem is that my most common miss-hit is a push. I seem to be able to fix this by concentrating on my right hand steering the club.

Is this normal? Do a lot of others have this swing thought?

I'm actually finding this swing to be a lot more effortless, and also have to concentrate on keeping my club speed down because of the effortless speed that it produces. If I don't, I get some wicked hooks. It sucks (but funny) when you hook your PW.

Please discuss.

The general school of thought is that your hands should stay fairly passive through your swing. Actively "steering" the club like that can produce some dramatic changes to the clubface angle- hooking a wedge is just one of results!

Hold your finish and notice where your belt buckle is aiming. Chances are that if you're pushing the ball, then your belt buckle is pointing to the right. Try to make sure that you're turning through enough that you're facing your target at the finish. Hip rotation is a much more reliable way to square the club.
