My game is getting better, but the mental aspect is killing me. How do you all relax enough to just hit the shot and not worry about little details or "what if" thoughts? I tend to psych myself out on tough or important shots, usually shots I know I can hit.

When I can stay calm and relaxed, I play great golf. Once I start thinking, it all goes downhill. What do you all do?

I walk ... if/when I'm in a cart and hit a bad shot, I'm on top of that ball too quick driving up there in a cart. If I'm walking, I've got time to settle down, re-adjust my thoughts and get set for the next shot.
I make all my own clubs:

Once I start thinking, it all goes downhill. What do you all do?

I think I've spotted your problem. Thinking and golf don't go together.

Can't remember who, but someone said that the best thing a golfer can have is short term memory loss. Stop playing around in your own kitchen!

I almost always walk, I hate to ride.

My last round, I tried to keep a more "relaxed" feel, and ended up taking lazy/sloppy swings and playing a horrible round. I guess there's a difference between mental relaxing and physical?

how do I keep relaxed? I never think about what the shot means. It's only a golf shot. One shot at a time. I only focused on what I'm doing right at that moment. I found myself walking down the 17th at local US Open qualifying thinking about making it to the next round. I had to re-set and focus on the task at hand. Put that little white ball toward that little hole. If that does not work, I sing a little song in my head. Two thoughts can't occupy your brain at the same time. Singing a song takes the bad thoughts away and allows you to stay relaxed.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I drink.

It helps me relax on the front 9.

By the last 3 holes it can tend to be a problem though............

9 times out of 10 I play as a single and my biggest problem is staying focused when paired with players who have poor etiquette. When someone is constantly walking in my line, cursing at every shot because that is "not how i normally play" etc, I just completely lose focus. It is terrible

I drink.

i guess u can handle ur alchy better. my problem starts with about 5 - 6 holes left haha..

but seriously, i just take a deep breath before i take my setup. and keep reminding myself to swing easy, the ball is already dead. i tend to get into trouble when i over swing.

I've been studying Buddhism for about a year, and whenever I feel my mind stray I'll recite the Buddhas name, I'll also concentrate on deep-breathing.

How do i relax? i just remember i am here to have fun, i put a smile on my face,

It is a game after all, you've got to keep it fun.
