What the coolest animal you've seen on a golf course? My complete list from what I remember is:

Fox
Deer
Coyote
Rabbit
Frog
Groundhog
Eagle
Duck
Googe
Gator

The coolest was definitely the coyote.

Ill add mouse and skunk... chipped in from the fringe once and had a mouse jump out bringing the ball with him... must have hit the poor little guy in the head.

There is a family of skunk that lived on one of our city courses last year, momma daddie and babies. Hit my approach over the 18th green at dusk on round and it was sitting 2 feet from one. He was just staring at me like he was saying "come on over and hit it, I dare you".

I let mr. skunk keep that pro v1.

Road Runners are pretty cool... Saw one when I played the stadium course in Scottsdale in '94. Seeing the one during the PGA coverage this weekend reminded me of it...

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...

I got tagged by a 7' king snake that was sunning in a bunker. I tried a crocodile hunter move and pick it up by the tail.. Bad move

Nothing unusual. But we do have a lot of pissed off geese here.

Last week I had a 6 am tee time, the guy on the other fairway shanked his ball down by the water by 2 geese and their babys he aparently didnt see them behind the tree. He was almost ass raped by the male. He slammed his bag down and ran the other way. It was one of those moments you wish you had a camera.

Good friend of mine was golfing in canada when a moose and calf came out of the woods.

On my main course, on a short par 4, there is a family of wood chucks their there every year. Babys are really cute.

We also have a homless guy that wonders around the course picking up beer cans. Hes very elusive as he spooks easily. :)

What the coolest animal you've seen on a golf course? My complete list from what I remember is:

I've seen all of the above on various courses except the coyote and the googe. (not sure what that is, if googe = goose, I try to run them down, I fricken hate geese.... I guess I hate geege too))

During ONE round last year I saw: Big Turtle (Like bowling ball big) Deer Red Fox Skunk and a Blue Heron. (who was actually in a tree and dropped a gallon size crap on the teebox) I thought I was in a National Geographic special that day.

We played a course once that butts up against a National Wildlife sanctuary; woods, swamp, lakes ... we snuck out of work early one Friday and got a late mid-afternoon tee time. Walking around the corner of a severe dogleg on 18 near twilight, there on the fairway about 100 yards from the green (and 200 yards from the clubhouse too) were two does (whitetail) each with two fawns. Pretty cool ...

I think I've seen that beer can dude, too. Iowa ain't that far from Wisconsin!! HA!

Ive seen a big ass mutant dinosaur turtle in a lake. But the most interesting animal story i have (also kind of tragic) is my indcident with a starling years ago. If any of you have any expereince with starlings, you know they are pesky little things that like to fly two inches off of the damn ground. I was playing a shot and I skulled my 5 iron. It struck a starling as it took a bounce and worm burned its way down the fairway.

At my course we have snake habitats and there are PLENTY of snakes here since it is a wetlands area. Probably the coolest thing I have seen is one day we were on the putting green practicing before our round. We noticed a deer came flying out of the wooded area on number 10 to our right. It ran full speed across the 10th fairway, through the woods between 10 and 18, across the 18th fairway, through the woods between 18 and 1, across the 1st fairway, jumped in the pond(it was really cold), swam the enitre length of the pond, got out and just kept running full speed until we couldn't see it anymore. Obviously something spooked it because it was hauling butt!!

I forgot one more story ... about 'animals'

We were on vacation in Myrtle Beach and playing a course in which the ranger came up to us on like 12 or 13. She said not to be too concerned about the blood on 16 green. They apparently had an unruly aligator (or croc, I have no idea which) that wouldn't leave and so they had to shoot it!! When we got to 16 you could see a lot of blood on the front apron, a nice neat little hole in the turf and drag marks to the cart path!!

HAHAHAHAHA I forgot about that one!

The coolest creature that I have ever seen was an alligator. I was Playing in Florida with my father in law and him and his buddies were telling me about the gators on the course we were going to. I thought that they were teasing and full of , however at about the seventh hole I hit my ball over an elevated green and as I went over the green to find my ball, it was sitting about 20 feet from a gator. I ran picked up my ball and ran away as fast as I could. They were all laughing and gave me a free stroke. I was scared then, however now it is freaking hilarious to think about. LOL

there are so many WT deer around here they are like rats. All I need is a hand full of corn and a hammer and I could eat good. I wish I could carry a gun while playing. It would take a few months, but I could feed a family of 5 for 10 years with the meat I could take. There are times in the late afternoon, that you have to watch where you are driving so you don't hit one with a golf cart. The would be embarrassing.. at the hospital all burgered up and when asked what happened you have to say you hit a deer going 10 mph in a golf cart while drinking a cold beer.... "the damn thing came out of no where".

The day I left work at a Florida golf course, we took out a 12 foot gator. The guy shot the gator, cut off its head and gave it to me. I put it in an ice chest and drove here to Texas the next day. That thing was huge.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
