So I took the afternoon off (actually I didn't take it off, I just left) work yesterday and headed to the course. Things are going along pretty good. I came across a group on 11 that let me go through so I played 11 and 12 pretty fast to get clear of them. I catch another group and had to wait a little on 14 so I got caught up with the scorecard.

I keep track of fairways and if I miss one I draw an arrow right or left so I know what the miss was. I fill in the back 9 and notice that I had 6 arrows in a row (8-13) pointed to the right. None of them were bad misses, just off the fairway a few yards to the right. My normal shot on the tee is to aim right center and play a little draw. As soon as I saw that I had missed so many to the right I instantly knew what I was doing wrong since it is a common problem for me. I have to think about getting my hands turned over at the bottom of my swing. For those 6 holes I wasn't doing that. After the light went on I bombed the tee shot on 14 and again on 16 and 18.

Had I not been keeping track, I probably wouldn't have thought about it until I got home and would have missed others to the right. Just goes to show what can be corrected on course if you have a way to recognize the problem areas as they happen.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Great tip! Particularly with regard to the arrows. I tend to try to write too much in too small a space. That one arrow will tell the story. I might change the size of the arrow to indicate how far off track the shot is.

Good one.

Guys, download

Scorecard . Give it a try for demo purposes, but most importantly - read the manual. It's a PDF, and one of the pages shows three example holes of how I keep stats. You only need two boxes on a scorecard to do it, and yet you can keep five stats (which you can then enter into Scorecard or not, of course).
