So after being one of those "I just can't hit the driver types* I think I finally cleared that hurdle today. After realizing that my swing with my driver is pretty much worthless I completely abandoned it today on the course. Most recently I have been playing a really weak cut that along with being short also sometimes slices off the fareway.

My swing thought was to produce an reverse slice sort of thing *hook* only without wierd compensations because I hate those. After visualizing what happens to a left handed person that hits a slice and trying to perform the same sort of motion myself but right handed and from the opposite direction I hit a very long push missing the fareway by 30 yards to the right. I hit this same ball flight for a few more holes to confirm some consistency and finally by the fifth hole I started allowing my grip which is nuetral to release through the ball. The whole thing resulted in an incredibly long high draw shot approaching 280 yards... Awesome.

I had my girlfriend tape me when I got home to see what was going on and it looks like I'm actually below plane and I'm still able to swing as hard as I want unlike before when I was trying to let my arms drop which caused me to swing a lot slower.

Anyway so this thing that has eluded me for so long became not only possible but almost natural as soon as I thought about it in a different way.

Congrats...I recently had the same epiphany. Just didn't go about the same way. I totally understand how ecstatic you are right now. I played in the local course's "Drunk Bunch" today, my first ever tourney-like event and hit the ball 'straight' and long by my standard. It felt great and gave me confidence for other shots. Just keep making and engraining that same swing and don't get greedy Good Luck.

I don't know if there's a better feeling in golf that getting on/below plane with the driver and hitting that nice high draw 270+ down the fairway. I've just started to experience it this year, it's simply amazing how the ball rockets off the clubface.
