CURSED SHOULDER LIFT and PULL

Yup, I had that problem, and it still creeps up on me every now and then. I took a few lessons, and what fixed it for me was a combination of things, but most notably a focus on swinging smoothly. Some people describe it as "tick-tock", although for me personally I have a short and slow backswing, and a quick downswing. When I first began working on smoothing out my swing, I lost a lot of distance. But eventually I built up more lag and now I'm hitting the ball farther than before.

Another thing that helped me is to think about keeping the swing flat (maximizing the width of the arc at ground level). I don't know if that makes any sense, its hard for me to describe.
