My first time ever on a golf course was today. Just a little baby par 3 9-hole course, but I was happy with what I hit considering :D 3 pars, 3 bogeys and 3 double bogeys. I almost had a birdie, but I missed a silly putt. Ended the 9th hole with a 15ft chip straight into the bottom of the cup :D

It was wonderfully fun :) and on the way home I treated myself to my first driver and my first bag :D (rest of the clubs are borrowed... ironically the irons are Cobra knockoffs, lol)

No kidding. Now that you own a driver you can introduce yourself to the triple bogey.

Good score by the way. Not many people are bogey golfers right out of the gate.

Welcome the sport of golf. You'll learn quickly how golf is like a girlfriend, takes a lot of money and time, always demanding more out of you. Even when things are going the best - you'll still notice need for improvement. But in the end its the most fun you'll ever have, Enjoy the game for all its worth :)

I started out on the par 3 course at Rolling Hills when I first started. I think I played that about 15 times in a month before I got out on the regulation. Be sure to get to the range to work on your longer stuff, because it will get ignored a bit lol.

Andycapped, welcome to golf. You will love and hate the game (usually at the same time). I wish you the best and hope that you only see continued improvement, however I expect to see you soon in one of our "what the f*** happened to my game?" threads.
Honestly, it is the greatest sport I have ever played (and I've played them all), but it is also the most frustrating, confusing, expensive, etc., etc.
I wouldn't give it up for anytihing!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I will have to rephrase what everyone already said: welcome to a life-long obsession that will forever change your life, sometimes to the better and sometimes to the worse. Along the way you will face triumphs, moments of joy and moments of accomplishments, but you will also face frustration, depression, moments of suicidal tendencies (OK, I might be exaggerating a bit on this one) and moments of pure rage and anger.

Hold on tight, you're in for the ride of your life.
My achievements:
Eagles: 0
Birdies: 18

Thanks for everyone's replies. My father wants to get me on a "big boys course" this weekend to see how I hold up. Hopefully it isn't too depressing :P

I think every state hast at least 1 rolling hills golf course... That is the one i am still working on up here in WA, i am not a great golfer so the hills are not rolling for me in the right direction.

Welcome to the game of golf, hope you enjoy it!

Dear Andycapped,

Glad to hear that you had fun, and thanks for sharing your story and your photo.

I have a short holes course near me. As you graduate to full size courses with your new Driver in hand (or bag), don't forget to still use you par 3 course to work on your short game. That's where you win and lose at this game.

I love our local course, it's always quiet. I can get on there at almost anytime and I usually play four balls per hole. I purposely try and miss one left, one right one long and one short. I then try and up and in, in 2, with each ball. It's a lot of fun and a great way to hone your chipping skills.

Welcome to the wonderful world of golf!

Thanks for all your replies!

I played the same 9-hole par 3 course again twice after work. The first round I had 3 pars, but some really bad holes, lol. I finished somewhere between +20-25. I went around again and had 6 bogeys and 3 double bogeys for +12 :D

    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).

    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
