Frequently I get to the course just a few minutes before my tee time (usually when catching a ride with someone who is running late--my own preference is to arrive at least 45 minutes early). Any tips for an abbreviated warmup?

Id rather get a good stretch in than tryin to hurry up hit a few balls on the range. if you strecth good everything else will fall into place after a couple of holes.

If you "frequently run late start warming up at home. Or better yet, drive yourself and get to the course early.

A good stretch, then get to the putting green for as long as time will allow.

EXACTLY.

First off, the regular courses I play all require you to report to the golf shop 30minutes prior to your tee time. Second, my playing partners and I love playing games on the putting or chipping green prior to play. Not only do we get valuable practice and warm-up time in, it's fun and relaxing!

Harvey Penick said if you have only time for one thing, hit a few chips. It's at least a mini version of your swing and it takes a little touch and gets you feeling like you're about to play golf.

He thought the worst thing you could do was rush through a few putts on the putting green, miss them, and then already be doubting your putting on the first tee.

I always hit a few chips before the round if I only have a minute.

i typically do the swing-two-clubs routine, do a few body turns, stretch down and touch my toes (or get as close as i can, at any rate), and prop my legs up on a bench or a tee box and stretch them a little bit. after that, like someone already said, after a couple of holes, the groove will fall into place.

I will first get to the putting green and try and hit some putts to get myself in 'golf mode' and get a feel for the greens. I will swing two clubs to try and get the muscles loose. If my group is already on the box I will simulate a few regular swings with a broken tee or anything that is sitting loose on the ground. If I don't get to hit balls prior, it takes me a good 3-4 holes to completley warm up.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I run to the putting green, line up 3 balls - one from one foot, 4 feet, and 10 feet. I want the line to be slightly up hill and straight -

then i pop those balls out of the cup (hopefully) and turn and hit the threes balls toward the fringe trying to feel the speed of the greens - I then knock the balls about 2 feet off the green and hit three really quick chips in the direction of my cart or my bag just to get some contact

then I go over to the first tee, and stretch my hamstrings, then take out my weighted driver and start with a few half swings (maybe 5) then reach back and take about 5 full 60% strength swings - then rip off about 10 full swings with it.

Then when its my turn on the tee, I take about 4 practice swings with my driver after my ball is teed up just to get a little used to its lighter weight.

I've had to do this the last three rounds I've played when I was running late. The funny thing is those were also the three best drives i've had in weeks I attribute a lot of it to the reduced expectations I have since I didn't have a proper warm up

What I usually do is take a club that I'm very comfortable with and know I can hit semi-straight, and use that on the first hole. If it's a par 5, don't try and go for it since it's the first hole. If it's a par 4, just use a club that you are comfortable with, but still goes a good distance to get there in two. I use it to try and figure out how I'm hitting that day, and just go with it for the rest of the round. If I hit a draw off the tee, I'm hitting a draw that day, and vise versa with a fade/pull/push.

Good luck!

If I were you…

This is what I would do to loosen up. I would take out my three iron, take my normal grip and stance, and swing at the shins of the guy who was late picking me up for golf. Then I would ask him, “Are you going to be late again?” But that is just I.

Either the 3 or 4 iron are good, but I'd go with a strong grip and more of a deep knee bend (think bunker shot), with the shins positioned just off the left heel. Take no divot of course.

In my case the main thing is to use the 3W off the tee the first hole at least. No fun losing a ball right off the get-go.

Make sure you have good hip rotation, and turn through the ball. (of the knee)

Stretch and then think "nice easy tempo".
Then make sure either you or someone more punctual than your friend gets you to the course next time.
