I have been struggling on my home track this year, turning in several rounds in the mid-low 50's. I am scratching my head, but I think I have found the answer. Beer. Last year I swore off the stuff and started playing much better, then I got back to having a few while I played and did rather well (bottom 40's high 30's).

It seems I can't correct my game when I've having a few Friday afternoon cocktails, but once I've got the swing I like I'm good to have a few. Does anyone else note their swing react this way? I'm turning off the sauce for the next few weeks until I get my Hdcp back where it was last year.

My buddy swears that he has the cart girl's number on speed dial for emergencies.......like when I'm kicking his ass!

I like beer, but I have to wait until the end of the round. If I even pop a top, it's likely to result in bad things. Probably more mental than anything, but nonetheless.........

The good news is, if I hold off, I usually get to buy the post-round beer with someone else's money!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have a couple of friends that are pretty intense, a beer or two when things aren't going seems to relax them. I on the other hand, get a couple in me and my swing goes to pot. I lose all concentration and can't hit a ball.

My goal is always to break 80. If I'm out of that range, I'll have a beer at that point (Coors Lt. preferably), but if I'm close to the 80 mark, I'll hold off til the end.

If you drank good beer, you would break 80 more often! Too much time puking up that rot gut in the woods.

I notice it helps me relax, but if I have too many, I get lazy and rush things (reading putts, for example). I need to find the perfect medium.

beer is the bain of my game. I dont drink beer unless im screwing around, when I actually try and play I wont even have 1.

Last time I got really tipsy, my cousins b-day, scotch plus lots of beer and I think I shot like mid 60's on the back 9, broke a trashcan holder, lost a sleeve of pro v1's, and almost had to buy a new cart :) bad, stuff.

LOL I like that. Honestly I'm more of a Crown drinker, but Crown and Texas heat are not exactly a good look

Same here; the magic number for me is 3.

I only drink on mens night on tuesdays, and have turned in some decent scores. My play on the course is quite good when im drinking, but my putting suffers badly.

I'll generally limit myself to about 2-3 beers maximum in an 18 hole round, and only if I'm golfing with someone. I find that a social every 6 holes or so takes a little of the edge off because by that time I've shanked a few shots. If it's really hot outside or the course is busy then I just stick to water and leave the socials for the 19th hole.

Overall, I don't think beer will help you. I played against playing partners who drank enormous amounts of beer. I would be staggering drunk. No telling how bad they would beat me if sober. Does beer enhance athletic competition? No.

I find a play better with a couple beers in me. I am more relaxed and in less of a hurry, but after 4 or 5 I think my play goes downhill. It really goes downhill when I have to close one eye when I hit so I only see one ball. But my only chip in from more than 40 yards occurred when I was close to that state. I chipped in from about 110 for a 7 on a par 4

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
