I might be jumping the gun a bit, but it looks like Ryan Moore and Camilo Villegas will play in the second to last group tomorrow at the Buick Championship. This news is enough to catch my attention and make me want to tune in for the final round.

These two guys are definitely the future of the PGA Tour, and it would be nice to see both of them play well tomorrow and have a chance to win late in the day.

It doesn't hurt that I'm a big fan of both.

Anyone else excited about the pairing?

Yeah it'll be worth watching

There are like twelve Buick tournaments, it seems. Just three though: Invitational, Championship, Open.

I'll be watching the U.S. Women's Open instead.

Ditto. Lots of starpower on that front page of the leaderboard.

Here's my impression of Camilo Villegas, in real position to win for the first time on the PGA Tour:

Heh heh heh. We don't have a "vomit" or a "choke" smiley for good reason, I guess. Heh.

He'll win when he has four days with a hot putter. :)

He's had four days with a hot putter. Unfortunately for him, one of those days was in March, another in April, one in late May, and another towards the end of June.

Camilo: The Anna Kournikova of men's golf. The Natalie Gulbis of the PGA Tour. Heh heh.

It's not quite time to label him as one of those two quite yet, but it might if he doesn't win in the next year or so. I'll give him at least two full seasons on the PGA Tour before I start labeling him Kournikova or Gulbis.

On a sidenote, I was happy to see Ryan Moore play decent on Sunday and finish in a tie for second with another one of my favorites Hunter Mahan (Okie St. guy). It was nice to see Moore stick it close at the 72nd hole and finish with birdie. I predicted Ryan Moore was the next big thing about this time last year, and it hasn't paid off yet. But it might work out for me sooner rather than later.

I bet Camilo will win within a year to date. He came close at Doral and he'll seal the deal sooner of later.

Interesting sidenote.... last year at the Pinehurst Open, I found myself sitting next to a USGA executive in the stands. I struck up a conversation with him over the course of the next hour and we talked about a number of things, including who some of the up and coming amateur players were who would have an impact on the PGA Tour. I mentioned Ryan Moore (I, like you, thought he'd be the next big thing) and was quickly told "no way, no chance, I've seen thousands of professional golfers and he just doesn't have what it takes." Now, I may have thought nothing of it had it come from some random guy, but coming from a USGA executive made me wonder. Unfortunately, I never could get it out of him why Ryan "doesn't have it."

What do you guys think of a match up in driving distance between Camilo and John Daly at the Cialis Western Open and Camilo spots John a yard and half.

Has anybody read John's book "My Life In and Out of the Rough". It's an excellent book about John told by John just as if you were there in the room talking with him. I suggest it for anybody that likes Johnny D.

John has lived 20years of life in 10 years. I can't believe some of the stuff he's gone thru and still remains competitive, (if he's sinking 3 footers) .

That is definitely interesting.

I had the complete opposite reaction when I first saw Ryan Moore play. I thought he was a "can't miss" prospect to do great things in the future. Then again, I'm just a Thrash Talk writer and not a USGA member. Maybe I'll get the best of ol USGA when things are said and done.

How much?

And I'm not talking about opposite-field events. A regular PGA Tour event. No silly season, no opposite field crap.

Yeah to say Ryan Moore has "no chance" or doesn't have "what it takes" seems a little off base. This guy's an NCAA, US Am and Publinks champ. He's got the chops to make a living playing pro and maybe even be a champ.

I do wonder about Ryan's swing, it seems fairly non standard among todays young golfers, maybe Iaacas could analyze it for us! It reminds me of Jay Haas swing and he has done pretty well. Camilo doesn't seem mentally ready to me. He makes a lot of aggressive plays that don't pay off and seems to miss a lot of putts when the pressure is on.

Ryan Moore is sitting at -3 after his first round of the Western Open. He had another very good round coming off his solid finish last week. I hope he can keep it rolling.

As for the swing, it's consistent. That's the main thing. Jim Furyk's swing is ugly, but it's consistent. Ryan Moore's swing isn't the best, but it has nice tempo.

Jim Furyk's backswing is really the only goofy part of his swing. That and how close he stands to the ball.

From the top down, Ryan Moore, Jim Furyk, Allen Doyle, Jay Haas - anyone - has to have a good move or they wouldn't be where they are. The backswing just sets up the downswing. And yeah, seems odd the USGA official would say that, but at the same time, the PGA Tour and 72-hole stroke play events aren't the same as amateur match play events. Not by a long shot.
