if you had an exemption to play in any major, which would it be, and why...

for me, it would come down to the open championship, at st. andrews of course, or the masters. the open has a longer history than any other golf tournament, and owing that my driver has had a mind of its own lately, it would be easier to get out of trouble on the open expanses of a links course with no trees. augusta is one of those majestic courses, where you go to play and would never dream of renting a cart, and be so captivated by your surroundings that you forget other golf courses even exist. my choice: the masters.

haha... yeah, it would probably be pretty embarrassing, although i'd be pretty proud if i broke 90 at augusta on nat'l television. maybe you could get a show on the golf channel and get free lessons from butch or hank, like sir charles.

Definitely would have to be The Masters. Probably the one way i'd ever get to play August. It just has an aura about it that the rest of the majors don't have.

It could only be the open. No offence but due to money and more global "weight" the game was changed by the USGA - bigger balls, different size holes and rule changes from the original Royal and Ancient, and for me it's always been unclear why.

For me that kind of invalidates the othe Majors. Imagine if the UK or better, Europe took up gridiron football and decided that ther would be no forwrd passing and banned offence / defence team changes....and because of money, more players etc declared their championship more important than the Superbowl.

Mind you on a 'political' level I'd rather see the Ryder Cup played between the US & UK v the Rest of the World......why we get lumped in with Europe is beyond me!

No trees does not mean no problems! Thick gorse, heather, marar grass, pot bunkers, narrow fairways - you'd pretty soon find yourself yearning for a nice, spreading chestnut tree, with space underneatht for half a swing!!

My original thought was The Masters, for the reasons above, but I come back to the Open, for the reasons others have given - history, heritage and the courses it's played on are a huge challenge, with or without wind and the psychology of a Major!

Pop down to Dover and stand on the cliffs. If it isn't raining, you can see Continental Europe - it's just 23 miles away.

Not sure if there's anywhere you can see America from the UK. Probably because it's 3000 miles away... (Historically, the Ryder CCup was 'twixt' GB&I; and the US. We got Europe involved on our side because we were getting thumped all the time and the US was losing interest. Tom Weiskopf (I believe) went hunting one year, rather than play Ryder Cup. It got that bad)(And anyway, how many of our 'top players' would make a US/GB&I; team?)

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

For me it would have to be The Masters. It's been my favorite tournament since I was a young teenager. My mother now lives about 15 minutes away, although I still have not gotten to go (I did get to drive by the course one day though - not very impressive from outside, though). I love the golf and the style of play at Augusta (although I wish length weren't as big a requirment as it has become).

The Open Championship would be my second choice, especially if it was at St. Andrews.

The Masters - scenery, and since we're in LaLa land with this, I'd obviously win so The Green Jacket and picking the meal the following year would be cool.

For me, definately Augusta: The Masters. The course in full bloom, the azaleas, the stone bridges, the long, winding holes, up some 300 feet and back down ... definately Augusta is the most beautiful course on the planet. If it was me, definately the Masters .

And I agree with Woodzie ... if I got the exemption here in DreamWorld, of course I win, I get to keep coming back and we're eating Wisconsin Bratwurst for next year's meal!!!!

The Masters because it was founded by Bobby Jones. Playing the British at St. Andrews would be pretty cool too, but nothing beats spring time in Augusta. Azaleas... Magnolia Trees... Hell, I would give my left one just to play Augusta National.

The Open Championship - steep in 149 years of tradition and a large field from all over the world.

The Masters, my 2nd choice, but only 1/2 the history, a smaller field, and its an invitational event.
