I just got my AP1s fitted from titleist. My previous set were just off the shelf. The only difference I got in my new clubs were 1° upright, a couple more wraps on the grips and stiffer shafts. I am heading to Whistler for 3 rounds of golf on Saturday. How much difference am I going to see in my new clubs and should I use them or just use the old ones until I can practice with the new ones??

Use the new ones. Why spend $700 on some clubs and not use them?

I just got a new set of clubs. Got them in the morning, went and played 9 in the evening. No range time, no practice. Shot the same score on the same 9as I shot with my old clubs 2 days prior.

Hard to say. That's a pretty big set of adjustments to do at one time. It's likely to take you a few rounds to get used to the changes. I had my irons adjusted 2° up and went from regular to mid-size grips at the same time, and the next day when I went out I was hooking everything 15 yards left and 15 yards further. Turns out with the lie adjustment my normal grip was too strong, so I had to move to a more neutral grip. I ended up hating the mid-sized grips too, just because they felt unnatural to me, so I went back to regular grips the week after (that old saw about people with big hands needing thicker grips is pure bunk -- it's whatever feels better in your hand).

As far as the shaft stiffness, it could be a huge factor. I have some Project X 6.0s that I like a lot, and that I play all the time. I got an identical set of clubs with Rifle Flighted 5.5s in them, and it changed everything -- tempo, flight height, flight pattern -- and I didn't like it. My swing speed can handle stiffer shafts too, so I tried Project X 6.5's out in my X-forged irons and hated them -- I was drilling all my shots like line drives. Sorry for the long answer, but I think the answer might be: (a) you could get lucky and everything works a charm the first time you take your newly adjusted clubs out, or (b) it will take you a couple weeks to work the kinks out.

Okay. Since I am a tournament oriented player I would say use the olds ones until I got used to the new ones just as if you changed your swing or grip. If it is just for fun, then go all out on those new clubs. Have fun and they should work out for you. Let us all know how they work out.

Thanks for all the feedback. So I hit the range prior and found everything to be pretty consistent. Took them with me this weekend and kept the old clubs at home, glad I did. Only issue I had was club selection yardages as the new clubs were hitting longer than old ones... Turned out to be a great weekend and I love the clubs

Yeah, it may take you a while with the club selection...it did for me when I got my MP-57's. (loft's were weaker, so the ball went a few yards further - at first I didn't realize it, lol.)

Pretty sweet, glad you took them out with you. May I ask, where did you get fitted? I dont think the golfsmith fitters actually look at loft degree on each club.... Thats where I was thinking of going to get fitted.

You make me want to get some fitted clubs now!

My instructor fit me at my local course. Even with the slight differences I got, way more consistant ball flight and straightness
