What are your strange little golf rituals and how do you come by them?
I have three that I am now a bit neurotic about.

1.I have to use a foreign coin as a ball marker – If I can’t find one in my bag it really throws me off.

2.I have to use the blue painted tee’s on my drives – if I don’t it really distracts me

3.I have to chew gum when I play. I never chew gum normally, but somehow I chewed gum during a round and I found it was very helpful to control my rhythm. Now I can’t play without it.

So what are your golf neuroses?

I have to wear a hat, no matter what. its REALLY distracting if I don't.
I really dislike having a wedge and my putter out at the same time... I always have to change them out instead of taking both when near the green.

I hate it when I don't wear a hat. It throws me off, and it doesn't help i have wavy long hair straight from the 70's. So the hair gets in my line of sight, if i don't have a hat on.

I have to wear a hat and a glove. If I don't have both of these on, I can't focus on hitting the ball.

I always have to have a snuff pouch before I tee off on the 1st tee - it helps me calm down and focus on hitting the shot.

Always use an Alaska quarter to mark my ball (the bear devouring a salmon is pretty cool looking).

I never wear a watch - but that's more because I have a surgically repaired wrist, and the watch makes my bones rub against scar tissue and nerves.

Always wear a hat, simply because I'm balding and don't want a nasty sunburn on the top of my head.

Ok.....but no laughing.

I will not use a white tee.......ever. Moreover, I remove every single white tee or piece thereof from the entire teebox before I hit. If we're riding, and the course provides white tees in the cart, I'll pull them out before we start.

I can't explain it, it just is what it is.....

FWIW, if I remember right, Lee Trevino refused to use a yellow tee. If that's true, at least I have some august company in my neurosis. I guess I've got that working for me.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

- Have to wear a hat (never wear a hat except at golf)
- Have to have shitloads of drinks, when i'm walking i have to be either talking or drinking (usually water, gatorade or an energy drink)
- Have to have my clubs in their correct pocket/slot
- Before i hit a putt i lift the club face up and wipe it clean with my hand (theres usually nothing there, its just a habit)

I dont care what sort of tee or marker i use, sometimes even use my phone to mark my ball
I rarely wash my clubs, clean out my grooves on my wedges every now and then

I also like to have my clubs in their certain "spots". That way I know that I have them all, and it makes it easier to find the one I want before a shot.

yep, nothing worse than a 9i where the 6i supposed to be, or the hybrid in with the wedges. drives me crazy.

Only one that I can think of...

I either wear no gloves (preferred) or I wear a glove on both hands (only when I'm sweating too much to get a decent grip).

Other than that I have no superstitions and nothing bothers me. My clubs are dirty, I use all different balls and tees, my bag is disorganized, and my stuff is all worn or broken. I have no pre-shot routine... maybe it would help...

Lucky color: red (from way before Tiger saw the color)

I always wear a hat, but never backwards.

I never wear sunglasses either, squinting rules!

I never wear shorts or those stupid little socks that only come up to your ankle.

I never gamble, smoke, drink or swear.

These are regurlar habits for me as well, but

Phone goes in front right pocket, nothing else. All metal objects take front left (coins, keys, divot tool, etc.). Balls in back left, wallet back right. Always have a hat on. I can't ever have my bag in my sight line when setting up, messes with me.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
