Just like the title says, its sounds intriguing was wondering if anyone else here is doing it and what your experience with it is?

I'm curious about joining next year, and going pretty serious about my golfing (if I could get more serious)

Stupid question do I provide my own caddy? My cousin has been telling me hes got dibs on being caddy for years...

It's not quite serious enough that you need a caddie but I'm pretty sure you could bring one. Basically its ok I've played in 3 this year and from what I can tell you have your basic sandbaggers (but they do force them to go up a flight eventually) and its pretty expensive. The competition is fun and if you do have the money why not. Another ok alternative if you are just looking for something a little competitive is the golf galaxy tour which is a little cheaper but its all 2 person best ball. Good luck

Event fees include cart fees and you'll be paired with another player. Haven't heard of caddies being on the local tour but I guess its possible though I'm not sure how the cart would be handled. I know there are penalties for slow play too.

The money isn't so much a concern, I have a couple local companies willing to sponsor me if I decided to do it. Basically they would pay my entry fee, maybe some lodging, I have all the equipment I need. The biggest stress would be time with my 9-5 M-F.

I was under the impression that it used scratch scoring not handicap, I though the handicap was just to place you in the proper flight. But I guess it doesnt matter much you could still lie. F'in sand baggers.

Damn!? you have to use a cart? I hate riding in carts.

This

amateur tour is played only on weekends.

Yeah I never heard anybody talking about clubs paying their way for the tournaments. Generally the travel isn't bad you might get one thats 2 hours away depending on what city is closest to you plsu they are all on saturdays. All you pay is a fee to sign up and then per tournament. I think you have the impression that it is really serious and it's good competition but it's not much different from any other flighted tourney I've played.

When I look at any of their regional tours, for results, they show 2-5 players and their scores. I don't know if that means that this is all the players in the event or just the top x-number of places. I am curious as to how many players they are having in the tourneys.

All 3 that I played had 7 to 8 guys in a flight and 4 flights. Guy I played with said it used to be huge when it was the michelob tour because it was a lot cheaper but golf channel bought it out. If you have a golf galaxy tour near you and have a buddy that would play its a great way to get on a nice course and have a good time playing. I'm playing in one this weekend on a course that runs about 150 and the fee to play was 89.

anyone know if this available in Canada?

I know there is one here in Ottawa, but I don't think it's very big. I personally find it too expensive to join. I think it's $200 to join and then your weekly fee to play. It might be a little different if there was more competition.

I plan on playing on it next year.......To me it doesn't seem very expensive, at least here in oregon they are playing on some of the best courses in the area. And at least in this area it seems like by far the most popular am tour.
