Low Cappers, have you ever stopped playing with a High Capper because...

they can drag you down sometimes?

I had to stop playing with a guy who is a "hollywood" handicapper with a 20 handicap. He should really be higher...

Here are the reasons...

1) You can't "talk" to his ball. If he putts and it's close to going in, you can't say "get in" because he thinks if you talk to it, it wont go in...

2) If he plays poorly, he takes it out on everyone else...

3) Finally, it's hard to shoot in the 70's and keep focused when hes shooting in the high 90's or 100's

I'm not a "low" handicapper, but a good round for me is 80-82. My normal playing partner is the same handicap as me, which is nice because we feed off of each others good shots and always have an enjoyable round.

I'm not a "low" handicapper, but a good round for me is 80-82. Whenever I play with a group of friends who generally shoot in the 90's I find it hard to stay focused and make shots, and usually end up shooting 84-86, so of course they think I'm full of b.s. My normal playing partner is the same handicap as me, which is nice because we feed off of each others good shots and always have an enjoyable round.

Yeah, you make a good point. When I was a 20+ I wanted to play with golfers in my cap range. I felt intimidated to play with really low caps. Now, I like to play with guys in my range.

Yeah, true, but when he's shooting high numbers and im not that doesnt help either...

#1 & #2, yeah, I wouldn't want to play with him either after a couple of rounds. #3, well, that's not his fault. You want to keep what the other guy is doing out of your head; he could be shooting lower or higher and you don't want your game affected by something out of your control.

i really dont play that well w higher cappers
my bro in law is about am 18 or so
i always tell him about my great rounds, then when i golf w him i can never produce
i have yet to shoot in the 70's w him..always mid to high 80's

i am sure he thinks i am full of it too

when i tee it up w some of my other buddies that are close to me, i almost always shoot my hcp or better

not sure what it is dude

I don't know, I find that I really honestly don't know how the person I'm playing with is shooting until we count it up at the end. I focus on my own game and nothing else and I think that's what everyone should try to do.

It doesn't matter to me. I think the problem in playing with high handicappers for some is that you know you are better and so you try to "impress" a little bit, usually off the tee with the driver. Once you have your game in control and play "your game" it doesn't matter who you play with.

Yeah-I think it has more to do with the fact that he's got a bad attitude. I think pace of play and attitude affect me more than the score of my partners. What I think can help is playing with someone good enough (regardless of handicap) to recognize flaws in your swing or putting stroke. I like playing with best friend (newbie-shoots around 120-125), but I shoot better playing with my Dad, cause he'll immediately notice if I'm swaying, pulling my head, decelerating my putter, etc.

Not a low handicapper myself, but I've played with a lot of different players. Their handicap may reflect their etiquette and behaviour, but I've seen singles being an ass and 36 handicappers being perfectly pleasant to play with. Most players get better etiquette and general behaviour the more they play and lower the handicap, but there is always a couple that you really don't want to play with.

It is however very easy to be affected by your playing partners. I've often experienced to play a lot better with a low handicapper than a high one. Even with impeccable etiquette, a high handicapper will use a lot more shots, wander in and out of the woods, lose a lot of balls. This can easily affect how you play, throw you off your game.

I shoot my best playing with people better than me, I shoot my worst when I am playing with people a lot worst than me.

The better players force me to compete.
The worse players make me not take it seriously.

I've just put my cards in and should come out a 24 but usually play with either 16-24 'cappers or my mate who plays off 5 - I can tell you it's a lot more relaxed playing with the higher 'cappers. My friend tends to be very 'passionate' about his game and has no qulams in letting me and the trees know when things aren't going well. On the plus side he is a font of information, tips and tricks but sometimes forgets some of us can't hit 250+ drives or spin a ball on the green.

I don't mind playing with bad players as long as they keep up. The most frustrating thing for me are these one or two guys I have played with when I have to wait for them to hit 2-3 shots before I can play a second. That gets really old to watch them roll 3 shots 50 yards each and they don't pick up. Other than that, most of the bad players I play with are really fun to be around (plus they are the bosses so they usually pay). Most of the time though I don't keep score at all because you get out of your game real quick.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.
