I am always wanting to work on my short game and I routinely putt and chip on my carpet at home.

Just curious to see if any of you do this as well. Do you think putting on carpet can damage your touch or feel?

i putt in my living room every day. i think it helps actually. its certainly better than not practicing putting at all. someone once told me that putting in my living room will hurt my putting but i dont buy it. according to them not putting at all is better than practicing on your carpet??? i dont think so. i average 1.8 putts per hole so far this year so it certainly isnt hurting me

I do it all the time. It even helps that one room in my house has a slight break in the floor, which makes it even funner.

Get a sheet of astro turf and put it in the basement and putt on that. It has a similar firmness to a lot of greens. My dads is pretty large and taped to the ground so its tight. He's going to get more and build some contours. Also going to put a very thin piece of foam underneath for a little more softness. Trying to borrow a stimpmeter from someone to make some samples and see if he can get it close to a typical course around here. But you need some space to make it 15'X15'. But we're going to add some curves (few inches) such that we can practice right to left, left to right, up slope and down. But a huge drastic amount, but enough to get feel for those kinds of shots.

I putt fairly regularly at home. I have a small patch of artificial turf that I lay down (more for protecting my putter than anything else) and I putt on that. I generally work on tempo, swing path, and center ball strikes. I used to be really inconsistent with my backswing which caused frequent off center ball striking. So, it's something that I work on at home.

I practice like that all the time. The only thing I've noticed is that if I don't get a chance to tap a few around the practice green...I tend to blow by the hole. Carpet is very slow lol. But it helps to practice finding the line and proper take away.

I practice my chips and putting all day LOL. I don't think it hurts to your game, what I do is I focus on trying to make solid contact in every shot, so when I get to the course I feel confidence stroking the ball.

Cheers!

I practice putting and short chips in my living room every day. I have yet to take out a window or lamp!

The putting is about the same on the course but I can really tell my chipping has gotten better. Hitting chips from carpet has tightened up my chipping by drastically reducing the number of fat/thin shots. My up and downs have gotten much better and have had 5 chip in's in just the last 3 weeks.

I do it all the time. and once I was going for a round of golf, but realized I forgot my putter in the living room, so I had to drive back ...

I used to do full swing in my living room. But I haven't done it again since my 6 iron slip off my hand, flew about 1 foot by my 50-inch Sony TV, and the club head went throung my ceiling. If you want to do some full swing in your house....think again ;P

I putt in my home at night all the time using as device called a "Boomerang" putting aid. It is a plastic device that angles up into a small cup that returns the ball if you don't have the line and the speed just right for your putt. It is pretty difficult to do consistently and a lot of fun in general. I also have a small piece of rolled up turf (called a Carnoustie Mat) that gives great speed and roll for the putts to use with the Boomerang. Both are available to order from the Boom Golf Website:

http://www.boomgolf.com/index.htm

I don't want this to sound like a commercial and I don't have any financial or personal ties to this company, but these two things really work and really have helped my putting tremendously. Both the mechanics of my stroke and my lag putting have improved since using the Boomerang, so I highly recommend them!

I putt in the house quite a bit over the winter and it only helps for me. If I do it in the summer or anytime right before I play, I just make sure and spend a little extra time on the practice green to get the regular feel back.

I always tell people that putting in the house on regular carpet, is like hitting half a putt. You can't think of it as putting a ball 10 feet and that is what it feels like. I am more concerned about stoking the ball well at different levels of power, than I am about how far the ball went. I just try and hit the ball where I aim it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I do it all the time.

Be forwarned though, if you take a full swing with a wedge and break your wife's antique washstand, there'll be hell to pay......
