Well, there's been a plethora of threads discussing distance for every club in the bag "How far do you hit your driver/ 3 wood / Hybrid / 7 iron / 8 iron / Wedge?"

Each of the threads gives an opportunity for forum users to show their guns and tell us what they all have in terms of power - like a courtship display by stags during the rutting season?

Anyway, it suddenly dawned on me that all along we've been neglecting the putter, so this thread is dedicated to the flat stick. I believe this thread will level the playing field, so to speak, as far as distances are concerned and even relative newbies or oldies will be able to mix things up with the big boys.

I can hit mine anywhere between a couple of inches and 100ft.

Beat that

I like it! A long putting competition.

I hit my clubs fairly long (6'3", long arms, fairly flexible) but I tend to leave my putts just a bit short. I always enjoy the irony in that.

But asking about club lengths is fine. You always watch the pros hit deep shots and you wonder. Of course, they often uses different lofts and shaft lengths than us, but sometimes you wonder if you're in the normal range.

As far as I need to. Don't think I've ever needed more than about 80 or 90 feet. I'm certainly not going to risk damaging it to do things with it that it was never designed to do.

I played an unfamiliar course today where the greens run about 30% faster than the municipals I normally play.

I had a 50 foot putt from the lower tier(about 2 foot rise) that also broke left to right about 3 feet. I lined it up and took the stroke . The ball grazed the left edge of the cup and trickled 18 inches past.

This was done with a Scotty... Newport 2.5 that I gave $100 for used on Craigslist, in mint condition.

I made the same kinda putts with my $30 Dunlop putter from Walmart. Why did I buy a SC putter that works just like my old Dunlop....? Well, the same reason why some buy Porsche, Mercedes or IBM........resale value.

I hit an old, cheap putter on the range once, the clubhead flew further than the ball.

This guy I played with once averaged 300 yards with his putter. He was only 16 and had a 24 handicap but he could bomb them all day. The only reason he isn't a lower handicap is that he can't pu... uh he can't drive the ball at all. Now I know people are going to say that there's no way that he can average 300 yards with his putter because of all the 3 footers, tap ins and ones that go in the hole but I'm just telling you how it is.

I like my putters to much to give it a try, but I knew a guy that could get about 150 from his. One of my playing partners can throw his around 40 yards......

IMO, there is NO way that anyone could average 300 yards with his putter even if he only used it for a driver. If that were the case, then why waste all the technology on driver design?

It's an even more ludicrous claim if he uses the putter for putting as well. All it takes is one 400 yard drive and one 2 foot putt to bring the average down to 200.3333 yards. And nobody is going to convince me that anyone can hit a putter 400 yards.... or even 300 yards. Maybe on a concrete runway, but not on a golf course, and that is the only place where it would mean anything. All it takes is knowing a little bit of very basic math to see that this claim is balderdash.

ive seen a couple buddies messing around and seeing how far they could hit their putter like it was a 5 iron or something but all you're going to do is break your putter if you do that, mines a cheap putter but i like it. Its not designed to hit the ball far, maybe if you had several putters and one of them was junk i can see doing that maybe. Makes me think of the commercial with Tiger on it and his caddie knocks his bag into the water and they dont go get it because theres a gator in there so he has to tee off with his putter.
