hey everyone im new here!!
just thought i'd get that out there...

ok, i have a 58* wedge that i use for my 30 yard or less shots... i can hit it about 60 to 70 yards at the range, but have the hardest time hitting that club with a full swing. (full swing with this club is horrible!!) its prob just poor mechanics or lack of eye on ball.

some of my shots that are in between clubs are killing me!
ex: PW is too much club and 58* is not enough club( but if i could hit my 58* with a full swing it would be perfect).

so my question is: should a get another wedge say.... 54* 52* for those in between shots?

thanks for any advice

Either learn how to hit 1/2, 3/4 swing shots or get a 52 or 54* wedge

No, you're not. I hate swinging full with anything over my 52. I never seem to hit it well.

Any distance from 65 to 75 yards on the course kills me. Best advice I can give you is never try to get the distance that is your weakness. If you are good from 100, lay-up on par 4's, or 5's TO THAT DISTANCE. Do the math, and hit the clubs that will give you the 100 yard shot. Or if you prefer a further shot like 120, lay-up to that.

hey everyone im new here!!

I love shots between 30-75 yards. Those are my favorite distances because you can be so creative. I pretty much use my 56 and 60 exclusively, though I'll use a 52 if I need a little bump and run. Don't try to take a full swing with a 58. I mean, don't swing it like you would a 6-iron. It just adds spin and height, and doesn't add much distance at all. Check your wrist hinge. You should be greater than 90* for those shorter pitches. Watch the pros. They almost never get the club cocked fully on shorter pitches unless they are trying to get it high like a flop shot. This is the kind of shot you should be going for with that wedge:

It works great. I'm very confident with anything from 100 yards to 120 yards. Inside of a 100, I'm fairly confident, but I am not as good. Inside of 60-75 seems to be my biggest weakness, so I will maybe get ONE of these shots per 18 holes, if I am stupid enough to get this distance.

If I'm not mistaken, your PW is 46* and your next club is 58*. For many players that might even be 2 wedges (50* and 54* to keep the gaps even) so I definitely think you should go with at least a 52/53* and possibly even consider putting 2 clubs into that gap. With 12* gap you might be talking about a distance gap of 30-40 yards and in wedges you usually want to be no more than 12-15 yards and most prefer closer to 10 yards between clubs.

And I agree with hitting the 1/2 and 3/4 swing shots as well because even with only 4-5* of loft gap you'll still often be stuck between yardages and need a partial swing. I have gotten pretty consistent with a 3/4 swing with most clubs (which is about the same as 1 full club down) and pretty decent with 1/2 swing with gap and sw.

I also agree with trying to hit to specific yardages, but when you have 12* of loft gap that leaves a big distance in between still that you are going to have a lot of partial swing shots that are still going to cause issues.

yeah i def want to hit a 52* and see what kind of shots i can make.

PW to 58* is a huge difference i know lol but i was just curious if i could compinsate a tad by a full swing. obviously i have trouble with that so what i get from these replies is:

1.play to strong yardages
2.use a club that can be effective with the swing that i am comfortable with.
