Long story short, after playing a few rounds a year for the last 15 years (I'm 28), I've really got into the game this season and have been playing a lot. I can strike my irons pretty good(which were pitiful just a few months ago), chips and pitches have improved greatly and while my driver still needs work, it's getting better every week.

The one thing holding me back has been putting. I played last weekend and 3 putted almost every hole. I flew 2 of the par 5's in two and was set up for birdie a few times as well. All ended in bogeys and worse.

Yesterday, I was playing a 9 hole(regulation size) I frequent during the week. As usual my puts were unpredictable and starting to frustrate me. So, I remembered a tip I read online where you set up the club, look at the hole and swing with your eyes on the hole. WOW!! It improved my putting immediately. I could not believe how well it worked.

I wouldn't think putting like that all the time is a good idea so by the end of the round I would: Practice swing while looking at the hole to get my tempo, line up to the ball, look at the hole and swing just immediately after focusing back on the ball. Unbelievable. Hopefully this tip will help others struggling with the putter

Interesting tip. I may try that when warming up on the practice green.

I generally always look at a dimple throughout every swing...putt...chip...etc.

I putt all putts outside of about 6 feet while looking at my target. It's helped me immensely in the past several rounds. In my past 7 rounds, I've averaged under 36 putts (not great, but better than my previous average of 36). Last round, I had 14 putts on the back nine. It's the best putting tip I've ever gotten and if anyone struggles with putting, I suggest you try this.

Speed is usually better that way, touch seems to improve but line gets worse. Once you learn the right speed really try finding and focusing on the line and once you can do both then you'll be putting lights out (in theory anyway).

I think that is a great way to warm up and judge speed. But not overly effect throughout a round.

I stare through the ball so when I strike it I am still looking directly at the spot the ball was on.

Same, I find if I keep my head down through the stroke I rarely ever push or pull the ball...

I do this when the greens are slow and need to lag it close. I never do this when within 15 feet since I am looking to make the putts within that distance and not lag it.

Same for me. I found that it eliminates many "stubbing" of the club behind the ball. I get a much better distance control this way.

It's a good drill for speed control, but my stroke suffer from it, so I don't use it when playing.
