I was thinking about this the other day. What is the average par four length for a 20 +/- 2 "bogey" golfer. I was thinking its about 370 yards.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I don't follow your question. How is the average length par 4 differ from one player to another on a same course?

well, sorry on the average course from the bogey golfers tee's (whites) what is the average length.

Most courses have a white tee box for a bogey golfer, from that tee box, what is the average length of a par 4.

I think the answer is 5 strokes.

Actually it depends on whether it's a long course or short course meaning the answer could be anywhere from 4.8 to 5.2.

Seriously, according to Wiki: The length of each hole from the tee placement to the pin determines par values for each hole primarily, though not exclusively. Traditionally, holes are assigned par values between three and five strokes. For a casual player from the middle tees, an average par-three hole will range between 100 yards (90 m) to 250 yards (230 m) from the tee to the pin. Average par-four holes range between 250 yards (230 m) and 450 yards (410 m), although tournament players will often encounter par-four holes as long as 500 yards (460 m) or more as it is not uncommon for short par-five holes for normal play turned into par-four holes in championship play. Average par-five holes are between 450 yards (410 m) and 600 yards (550 m), but in the 21st century holes of over 600 yards (550 m) are becoming more common in championship play. Other considered factors include terrain and objects that may require a golfer to take fewer or more shots to overcome (such as trees, water, hills, or buildings).

Tee's bogey golf should be played from is not a standard set of tee's. I know seniors who shoot in the 70's but play from the red tee's because they only hit the ball 175 yards.

If you assume the average bogey golfer averages less than 235 yards from the tee and hits a five iron 170 or less. Then most bogey golfers should have a chance on any hole less than 400 yards. Consistency, accuracy and short game are usually a bigger handicap. There are many who hit the ball much farther than this but because of these other issues aren't ready to move back, doesn't seem to stop many of them though.

Seriously, according to Wiki:

The data provided here are ranges (for an average par X hole), not average lengths, and so not very helpful to the OP - but they're interesting all the same and thanks for posting. Sounds about right. There's a par 4 on an executive course that I sometimes play that's down around 285 to the middle of the green - naturally I always try to drive that sucker.

I haven't studied it but I would agree with jonnythan that the average par 4 from the whites where I tend to play is about 340, so if I hit a pure draw off the tee I'm left with a soft PW, GW or SW. Sadly, this doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like ......

Would be easier if everyone played from the same tees. A bogey golfer is given one extra shot to get on the green, shouldn't need to be closer at the same time.

True, but Wiki provides the data for calculating the average and your response raised a few questions, at least in my mind or what's left of it.

I wonder what difference there would be if one caculated the mean and median par 3,4, & 5 on a given set of courses. I might do that when it gets too cold to play. I do have one serious question that is not worth a new thread. Does the handicap formula adjust for the difference between blue tees and and white tees (i.e. slope and course rating)?

You have a slope rating for each set of tees. For a scratch player it usually is a couple of strokes if you move from tips to yellow tee.

Average par 4 at my home course from white tees is 380.

I wouldnt call them bogey tees because they are used by pretty much everyone. The blues are generally only used for championships and not many seniors use the senior tees.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
