I had probably the most terrible round of ball striking all year yesterday! I scored descent but that was just because of my short game. My game has fallen off considerably since starting my swing changes. It's like all I think about now are the changes. I feel tight when I'm over the ball and I have all these swing thoughts going through my head. I have been going to the range once or twice a week and I hit them pretty well out there..but when I get to the course, it's like I start worrying about my score so much that I get caught between my old swing and the new swing changes and nothing works.

This is getting really frustrating! Even my irons (which have always been consistent) are not flying as usual. I am trying my best to have a good mindset and be patient because I know these things take time and bad habits are hard to break. But man is it hard!!

Sorry, just had to vent somewhere!

First thing, goes to show how important short game is.

Also, what i do after this happens to me, go out for a few rounds and don't keep score, maybe even hit 2 balls per hole. I'll also drop a ball at my best shot, maybe its a hybrid from 200 yrds or a wedge from 100 yrs...something that you know you'll make for sure. This will build confidence.
Just go out and relax, hit some balls and get the feel back. My next round is always good after one of those rounds!

Yeah, I tried that but it just didn't seem to work yesterday. My short game was a game saver though...even though my putting wasn't great. I shot a 76 but it's an easy course (69.2/112).

I knew that the swing changes would make my game drop off for a while, but I figured I had enough athletic ability to make the changes rather quickly....It is really hard to change something that you have been doing wrong for years, especially right at the moment of impact.

Played a course yesterday that I had never seen before and with strangers and absolutely stunk up the place. Gawd I hate that.

While I am obviously not at the same skill level as yourself I have been going through much the same this year. I just try and take the shots I hit well as proof that what I am trying to change will eventually come to fruition. My short game (which I changed this year to Stan Utley's method) has clicked sooner than the full swing change (to a one plane swing) so at least that saves a few good scores a round. Good luck with everything!
