What do you guys think about the deal that Cleveland has going right now. Where you buy a new set and can trade them in when a newer model comes in for free ! Its like buy one get one.
This is from their website....

Here’s the deal. If you purchase a set of in-line Cleveland Golf Irons (CG7
irons, CG7 Tour irons, Launcher Irons, HiBORE Xli irons, CG Tour irons or
Bloom Xli irons for women (really everything we make)) in 2009, you will be eligible to trade in your set for any of the new models of equal or lesser value •introduced from January 2010 to December 2011 at no charge. All you have to
do is buy your set at an authorized Cleveland Golf dealer and register your purchase.

Anyway... Just hadn't seen anyone post anything about it. Sounds like a pretty cool deal if you're the kind of guy (or gal) that likes to have new stuff often. lol I'm kind of guilty of that myself.
I'd hop on it in a heart beat if my wife wouldn't beat me.

Driver - Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS Monster 10.5°
3W - Cleveland Hi-Bore 15°
2H - Cleveland Halo
3I - PW - Cleveland CG Red

Why? A lot of irons now have V grooves, including mine, the 695 cb's. If it really made a big difference, you can always get a groove sharpener, or just get a vokey pw or something.

Is this years set a piece of crap? Why would a company do that?

I've been thinking about getting this deal for my birthday from my parents. Not sure how much I really like the Cleveland irons though.

Just a guess here, but I'd say you have to buy at full retail for the first and second set. In that case it's a win win for Cleveland. It gets people into the Cleveland brand and at full retail they'll make plenty of profit. Sounds like good marketing in a down economy.

Driver.... Nickent DX Evolver V2 65 stiff /07 Burner YS6+ stiff .

Cleveland may not be planning on making many changes to their line up over the next two years as well. So the clubs next year may not be that different from this year.

I agree, the only way I would buy this deal is if I hit the irons better than any thing out there. Lets face it, we want to become better golfers, not just get new clubs. My oppinion

I tried the CG Reds, last years version of the CG 7 Tours, and they were one of my favorites. I like Cleveland irons, so I think for those that are considering new irons, and DO like the Clevelands... it would be worth looking at. If you don't like the clubs it would obviously be dumb to consider such a deal hoping you like next years models.

It makes sense if you were torn between two sets (e.g. their players CBs and their blades) - other than that I think it's purely marketing.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

It would be nice for beginners to get their Hibore XLS irons and then once they have played enough, step up to a better iron.

As you can tell from my sig, I am a big supporter of Cleveland.

3 Wood V Steel 15*
Hybrid 3DX 20*Irons Ta5 3 - PWWedge CG10 56 degreePutter Classic 1

Sigh... poor cleveland. Most likely they are doing this because they are losing popularity and overwhelmed by other club brands. Not only that, the recent economy must be hurting their sales, so im guessing they are trying to push out all their current inventory to have more golf shops purchase more cleveland products

The average golfer(me included) wouldn't notice the difference between the 2 gooves.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
