How long to break 100/90/80...? - Page 5

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

Started playing golf at 17 and played maybe 10 times(always only 9 holes) between the ages of 17-25. The first time I played 18 holes 1 1/2 years ago I shot a 99 and for about 6 months all my scores were between 90-102. Then I get serious about golf, bought new clubs(instead of my beginner set from high school) and began playing a little more consistently and now I normally shoot between 80-90 and just broke 80 two days ago

So depending on how you want to look at, it either took me
8 years to break 100 and 9 1/2 years to break 80

or

I broke 100 from the beginning and it took 1 1/2 years to break 80

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

If i remember right, i started playing when i was in gradeschool, probably 12-13 years old. I was in the 100's, but when i was in 2nd hear in highschool i was constitanly breaking 90. Now i shoot in the low 80's with a handful of times i break 80. The first time i broke 80 was probably in highschool sometime.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

I broke 100 on my 3rd round, but it took me a long time to break 90, around 9 months of golf. Now I am chasing the lucrative 79, but that won;t happen for a LONG time. Seeing as I still hit the 90s occasionally.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

Lets see...
First picked up a club when I was 30, now almost 33
First time out shot a 140, could not even hit the ball.
I remember standing on the FRIST TEE for the first time...
8 of us total 2 groups of 4.
I was the last one to hit, I took 5 swings and miss, and I remember some of the guys just started to leave the tee box and said forget it.
That was when I took the game serious and vow to kick thier butts.

Break 80
April 11, 2010

This is going into my third year of golf and I am a low 80's shooter, with breaking 80 twice with a 78 and 79.

I hope that I get better as time goes on,
Some things I learn to help me shoot lower scores.

1. Don't need to hit driver every hole.
2. All you got to do is two putt, GIR means par, miss the green Bogey, you can live with that then your going to shoot better scores.
3. Don't care about what the next person is shooting or what club they are using, use what YOU PLAY BEST, and USE YOUR SHOT.
4. When in trouble punch out and take your bogey.
5. When in the sand, just get it onto the green, dont care where as long as it is out of the sand and you are putting. (Putting gives you a chance to save par, hitting another sand shot does not.)

These tips here have really helped me play better then my partners.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

When I really started to take golf seriously and play more than once a week, I was shooting around 100. I broke 90 after about 6 months, which was summer 09. I've danced around 80 without breaking 80 numerous times. In November I shot a 38 for 9 only to blow up on the back. December 1 I shot an 81. Just last week I thought I shot a 79, only to find out I shot a 80 when I re-counted my scorecard. While they are great milestones, I pay more attention to my handicap, which more accurately reflects me as a golfer. I can get really hot and really cold, so for every mid 80's round I shoot there are two high 90's rounds.

That sounds like a good sand trap game mentality to me.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

I started golfing when I was 12, and probably broke 100 a year or 2 later. Broke 90 at age 17, and have yet to break 80. I'm taking some lessons for the first time in my life now though, so maybe that will allow me to bust out of this 14 year funk I'm in.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

I've been golfing for about 11 years. 2 Months ago I switched from righty to lefty and my score has finally started to improve. I anticipate breaking 100 soon... I know that my handicap says 20.0, but I don't have any idea what it is really, I just know I'm no scratch golfer!

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

I started playing in late May of last year and shot an 89 in November. I've been hovering in the 95-105 range since then, but I'm hoping to break 85 or even 80 this year.

Re: How long to break 100/90/80...?

Started Nov 2007
Broke 100 and 90 on the same day with an 89 in June 2008
Lowest score of 85 March 2009
Still have not broken 80

Only had 6 rounds since 28 Nov 2009 due to Christmas and 4 weeks in OZ in Feb/March, plus done nothing but rain here in the UK = 89, 86, 92, 91, 88, 90

Hope to be shooting consistent mid 80's by end of the summer once I have fully got use to my i15's

I stumbled on this this site googling "how long to break 90." I read how some people "broke 100 on day one and 90 the second month" .. Yeah right .. So I thought i would add that you should really put the course slope in here.. Why? Because I teeter on breaking 100 but I'm playing courses between 125 and 135. When I played a 101 slope course (par 3) I had an 87, but honestly I don't count that. There is a HUGE difference between low end slopes and high end slope scores!

I broke 100 at 12, 90 at 12, 80 at 15, 70 at 17, and then gave up the game after college. Picked up the game again about 5 years ago... my low round since then was a 74 2 years ago. My back swing sure is a lot shorter :(

Broke 100 yesterday after 6 months of playing properly!!! 90 here I come

broke 100 in 2 months after I took up the game (had alot of guidance and tutoring from a friend who averages 73-75 and ten years of hockey helped a little)

shot a 91 at the end of that summer, didn't play much the next year, now I'm back in the high 90's low 100's and planning on smashing into the 80's, maybe 70's by september (fingers crossed).

Going on three years now and hopefully as things come together quickly I can achieve my goals.

on a side note, how many people posting are truly scoring correctly and honestly achieving these happy events?

I have a friend who scores in the 80's quite frequently, of course he never marks down the second or third tee shot he takes on 12 of the 18 holes...needless to say it doesn't matter on this board, but if you're doing what he's doing you're only hindering your own progress.

Well I broke 80 last year in June.

Haven't done it again since.

Made so many changes to my swing it may take all season to groove it again. Hopefully I can break 80 this season more than once though

Yep.. these are my friends, and me until I got serious.  Most of my buddies will tell you that they shoot in the 80s, but if they kept a real score they are in the high 90s or 100s.  I have been away from the game for about 3 years, and have not broken 100 yet this season, but I have had every opportunity.  It will happen very soon.  My goal is to be in the low 90s before the end of the summer.

I broke 80 after playing 4 days a week, every week from April to October for 2 years.

I started playing at around May 2009 (I only had 3 rounds that year) and wasn't too interested in the score. I started tracking my score about 11 months later. I broke 100 at around May 2010. I've yet to break 90, but have come close, shooting a 91 last year.

From the looks of my first round this year, it looks like I "fixed" 100. Hopefully that's not true though :)
