In the market to upgrade my PS 2. I know I am way behind :)

I am a little torn.
I like the Wii and the interavtive more gameplay
I like the PS 3 because my older games will play, I think.
Will PS2 controllers work on PS3 ?

Intersted in Tiger Woods for the Wii.
Any one have this or a link to an older post, would like some feedback.

Also looking at newer Guitar Hero titles.

I hear Sony just anounced a motion controller due in spring 2010,

In the market to upgrade my PS 2. I know I am way behind :)

If it makes you feel better, the most recent video game system that I own is a PS1. It was a hand-me-down from a friend... in 2003. The last one I bought was a Sega Genesis.

As for the console, I've been tempted to get a Wii and the TW game, so I could play 18 or 36 every morning more easily. It's very tempting, but will probably stand between me and my dissertation, so I'm going to refrain for now. But if I were buying, that's where I would go.

Depends on your life situation and what kind of games you like.

If you have a wife and kids, get the Wii.

If you are single and like shooter games/etc, get the PS3 (since you are already familiar with the playstation controls, etc)

Wii and Xbox 360 owner here.

The Wii gets a TON of use around here for family style games. If you have a family, don't underestimate the Wii.

The Xbox 360 I play, of course.

PS3, blech. We make a piece of software that works with Xbox 360 and PS3 and even the PS3 owners complain about their PS3s far more regularly.

I own a PS3 (and PS2, Xbox and PS1 before that) and find the PS3 to be a great console, one for someone nto more traditional games IMO.

I have used a friend's Wii quite a bit and it is good fun with a group of people, more so than the PS3 so we'll probably end up buying one too, especially since it is now only $199!

The new PS3s aren't backwards compatible with PS2 games. They used to be but aren't anymore and your PS2 controllers won't work with PS3. The 3 comes with wireless controllers.

In my view the PS3 and Wii cannot really be compared, they cater to two very different markets in the same way that the only thing a Porsche 911 and Range Rover have in common are that they are both cars. I know quite a few people who have both, when in PS2 generation and before you only ever had one games console.

I just played Tiger Woods on the Wii last night for the first time and was very impressed at the game play. It's a great representation of overall golf skills/knowledge. I actually had to make good swings with the controller to get the ball to fade or draw. Incredible! I can't imagine any other game console coming close with this particular game. Seeing this is a golf forum, this may peak your interest.

PS3, Xbox 360, Wii... just get all 3, that's what I did!

Haha, I've always been a huge Xbox guy, so I had to get a 360 when it came out. The Wii is just too much fun to not have around, what a great concept! And then I got the PS3 basically because of the Blu-Ray capabilities, but there have been some pretty sweet games too.

You don't really have to get all three, I have pros and cons about all 3 systems, I'm just almost as obsessed w/ gaming as I am with golf.

Xbox 360 here, used to be a big PS2 & original Xbox player.

PS3 won't play PS2 games from what I've heard. That's one of the reasons I never got the PS3.

Xbox 360 does play most of the original Xbox games ... with updates coming out regularly to be able to play the older games.

I have pretty much all the guitar hero/rock band games ... I LOVE them ... looking forward to Guitar Hero Van Halen coming out soon!

A buddy of mine has the Wii, and the games are fun because you have to get up & move around to play them. But they are very "cartoon-ish" and kid-friendly from what I've seen.

This is the list.
1-Xbox 360
2- Wii
3- PS3

My PS3s only use was to charge my iphone for a few weeks since I couldnt find the original charger. That and for my blu rays. Other than that, the 360 owns.

Your not correct.

PS3 Does play PS2 games. It depends on which version you buy. The 60GB AND 80GB do indeed play PS2 games. The cheaper 40gb does not. And the only xbox game that I know that works on the 360 was Halo 2.

I have a PS3 and like it, both for the Blu Ray and for games. But all three are pretty fun. My daughter is not a year old yet. If she had been older when we bought the PS3 we probably would've bought a Wii.

I have PS3 and love it. The graphics are far better, IMO, than 360 or Wii. Wii is fun but the replay-ability of the games is non-existent to me. I have no confidence in a 360. Anything that is prone to suddenly locking up and becoming a paper weight doesn't even get a look. Plus it's made by Microsoft and you know how they lie about things....remember Vista?

Ah ok sorry, I didn't know that some of the old PS2 games would work. I could have sworn that I heard the PS3 didn't play PS2 games when the PS3 came out. I must have gotten bad information.

I have probably 5 old Xbox games at home that I play on my Xbox360. According to this page: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/back...ygameslist.htm there are over 450 old Xbox games that work on Xbox 360.

I may be wrong, as I don't follow this stuff that closely anymore, but I think the newer 360s are a lot more reliable than the earlier ones. The red ring of death was one of the reasons I didn't really even consider a 360, but if I were buying one now I would give it a look. Technically speaking the PS3 does have more powerful hardware, so theoretically its lifecycle should last longer.

    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
    • I was agreeing with you/jumping off from there.
