Who plays a 2H instead of a 5W? I find that the hybrid is a bit easier to hit off the deck. Does anybody have much of an issue with distance loss?

I love my Nickent 3dx 2 ironwood. I can hit it like a long iron, with more of a descending blow and it goes nice and high with a soft landing.

I use a Hogan CFT 19 deg 2-Hybrid, and no 5w.

I absolutely kill it of the tee and its my go-to club if I need it straight ~240. Off the deck its much shorter, its my 215-225 yd club. I love it in my bag, especially since my driver has been horrible this year, at least this club can get me in the FW.

Will never go back to a 5w, just not versatile enough for me.

I have replaced 5W with a 585H, 19° which is more versatile from the fairway , rough , fairway bunker . A utility club for me.

Distance ? from 214 to 240 yards which fill in the gap between my 3W and 3 Iron.

I replaced my 5W with a 2H about a year ago. For me the distance is about the same only because I hit the hybrid a little better than the 5W.

A 2H is my next golf club purchase and it will take the place of my 5W. As everyone else mentioned, it allows more variety in the shots I can hit with it. One of my favorite uses is for chipping in heavy rough just off the green. My current 5W is an Adams Tight Lies knock off and it works well in this role, but a Callaway X 2H is much, much better.

So, as soon as I can afford one, it will be in my bag.

Then I need a new Callaway Diablo Driver and matching 3W!!

I use a 17 degree hybrid instead of a 5W as well. I think there is another recent thread identical to this one. A hybrid is easier to control the ball with and easeir to hit from a variety of lies. You can even chip with it.

I am not sure there is a real gap between a 3 metal @15 and a 3 hybrid @ 19; why bother with a 2 hybrid?

Oops sorry I should've looked around a bit more. Looks like I will be switching to a 2H. It just way easier to hit and seems to be more forgiving when I don't hit it all that great.

Actually, my Hogan CFT's the 1H is 17*, 2H is 19* and the 3H is 21*. The 2H is a nice fit between 3i & 3w.

In my case I have thought about the 1H vs the 3w, as I would expect them to be similar in distance. But in that case I think the 3w is more versatile (a bit longer and easier to work off the tee). I'll keep evaluating a 3w vs 1H, but doubt that I'll ever pull the 3w out of the bag. Travis

TM seems to deloft everything, so as for what would I rather hit, a 19 fairway metal or a 19 hybrid, I would pick the hybrid for my bag because you can hit it more places. But I do love the 3metal in the fairway; smackarooskie.

In my case there is a gap, but then I'm a short hitter in general. My 5W is almost 200 yards right on the head, and my 3 wood can go 220, and maybe 230 if I really step on it.

My three iron is 180 so I have a gap there.

I replaced my 5W with the exact same club, and get very similar distances. Off the deck I hit it 210-220, though if I explicitly lag it a bit I can hit it 230+. Off the tee it goes 220-240+. I don't like it as a chipping club, but I feel very comfortable with it out of so-so lies in the rough, and it's just a huge huge upgrade from the 5W for me. I feel so comfortable with it, in fact, that on days when I'm not hitting my long irons as well, I'll choke up and hit it down to 70-80% instead of hitting my 4i, even 5i some days.

A 2H will be the next club I add to my bag. I figure it'll be a good option off the tee and I have a big gap from my 24 degree 4H and my 15 degree 3 wood. Used to game a 21 degree hybrid but I hate it so I don't carry it anymore.

I had started a similar thread a few weeks back. Trying to decide if I should go steel or graphite with the 2h.
