Got to Bethpage around 5:15AM and there were about 15 cars in front of us. We were able to get a tee time for 8:30AM for a foursome. The course I have got to say is in beautiful shape. The greens are super nice and freshly cut. The only downside was that a lot of the fescue areas have been leveled for whatever reason. Without all the fescue, it takes away from the look of Bethpage Black.

The fescue is cut down each September and is re-seeded.

Played Black about a month ago - really in great shape. Been venturing out and playing the other courses. I've played the Red a lot - great challenge, great shape. Been getting in 9 on the Blue and Yellow a few times in the last month - great tracks, a lot of fun.

The maintenance of the greens on all 5 courses is ridiculous. You couldn't tell a difference between a green on the Black from a green on any of the other courses. Courier knows his stuff.

Woohoo, I remember the first (and only!) time I played the Black, shot an 84 hitting the ball better that I had all year, haha! Last time I played Bethpage I played Yellow, great course as well. My folks live about 7 miles from the park, so whenever I'm there I try my best to get a round or 2 in.

Shot a 96 from the white tees which is what I shot last time from the blue tees... 6/7 fairways in front for 48 and 1/7 fairways in the back for 48. 2 putted all the way to 17 then my 1 putt to save par then 3 putt the 18 for a triple, could not make a putt for the life of me... Only 2 sandshots all day compared to my last time around when I was in there the entire day. Guess I'll break 90 next time.

Not to get contrversial but this is the first year I have ever seen the fescue totaly taken down on the Black.I am not sure now mind you but I will check it out with the regulars I play with. This week it is closed several days due to outings and whatever but I to have played the Red several times in the last week with Bill and he knows all at Bethpage.

I'm hoping to play the Black again before they close it in November. Without most of the fescue, it's my chance at scoring low there. Gotta remember to leave the fairway wood at home so I don't pull it out on the par 5's and get myself into trouble.

Hoping to get out on 10/11 with my brother and a couple of friends - we'll have 4 homes phones and 4 cell phones dialing at 6:58pm this Sunday. Would love to get a time inside 1pm.

Only played The Black once this year, to the tune of a 91. Played a great round last year - out in 41, in in 47. I have yet to play that course without playing the last 4 in anything less than 4-over. I've played it enough to know my limitations and know where I need to hit the ball to make par. It is such a great place to play a round with 3 other people that take it all in shot by shot. A 7 on the fifth is easily erased with a 4 on seven. I don't think I've ever played another course where 4 strangers meet up on the first tee and genuinely root for each other all the way around - happens every time. I've actually played the Blue and the Yellow courses a bunch of times this summer and have had a great time. The Yellow is well laid out and plenty of chances for birdie if you get the ball in the fairway off the tee as many holes leave you with a 7-iron to wedge. The Blue course has more teeth - again, some really great golf holes where positioning means more than length. Also, I'll say it again, you won't find 90 greens in better shape than the ones at Bethpage - you can't tell the difference between a green on the Black or a green on the Yellow.

Called last Sunday night at 6:58pm and got through - couldn't get through on the landline, but go through with the iPhone two different times.

Landed a 12:30 foursome for tomorrow. Can't wait - weather in mid-60s, should be a great fall day on Long Island.

I think both the blue and the black close in november. I havent played there this year but its probably decent shape right now. The US open was wet with mild temps so that probably saved the course a bit.

Got moved up to 9:15 and it was a really nice day to play. The course is in great shape greens are fast but are holding so the only complaint was the bunkers were not in good shape. We have had lots of rain so they are hard and or had standing water in them.Shot 89 and felt like I played ok.have a 10:08 for next Thursday and that may be my last round on the Black as I realized it is getting to be to long a hike for this old man.
