Non-Golf Hobbies

I have a pretty eclectic list of them, as I suffer from the combination of a rabid interest in new things and a strong obsessive streak. My current career in the medical field actually was originally springboarded by one of those Random Interests.

Anyway, just curious what sort of non-golf diversions y'all might have.

My list:

*Guitar/Singing/Songwriting: I fronted a band for about 12 years in and around New Mexico. I still play almost every day, though rarely with other people. The occasional solo acoustic gig or open mic night is the extent of my 'Performance' these days but I'm still a bit addicted to it.



*Martial Arts: I semi-retired from MMA training when I took up golf. Got tired of being injured all of the time getting beat up by 19 year olds. Started playing golf and immediately got injured. Ha ha.

*Art: I painted oils back when I was much younger. These days I tend to limit this particular hobby to pencil/charcoal work.



*Caves: Ever since going to Carlsbad Caverns as a kid, I've had a bizarre fondness for clambering around underground.



Anyone else?

My favorite hobby is golf, plain and simple. Other than that, I look to shoot and take part in tactical handgun training. It's good exercise, takes outstanding hand eye coordination and has practical value.

Fishing is high on the list too since my five year-old son lives to fish.

And an Acoustic Cover one... (I have a handful sitting lost and forlorn on youtube, glancing at the batch... I was VERY bored at certain periods of my life.)



And, I've just remembered.... I am an amateur magician (Like I said..random, obsessive.).

I am an assistant tennis coach at my local tennis club for kids. I enjoy tennis and i am better at it but i get the most satisfaction and enjoyment out of golf without a doubt. I am at school still, otherwise i would make time to GO-Kart.

I pretty much play other sports and chill with my friends when I'm not golfing. I played volleyball and basketball for my high school, and I've continued to play those. Over the summer, I played more volleyball than bball since I live near the beach. I'm also picking up football now that I'm in college. People will be having a catch or running some routes, and since I was a big man in bball, I know how to jump and catch a ball (can't catch low ones though). I guess I could add weightlifting now to my list of hobbies. I've been on a 4 day per week schedule for about a month and now we're going up to 5 days this upcoming week.
Other than sports, I just hang out with my buddies. I'll just leave it at that, but remember I'm in college, so I really can't discuss all of my "college" hobbies .

As far as hobbies that didn't originate with my golf obsession, I think I'm limited to movies (this started due to it being dad's line of work) and playing bridge (I'm only one decent tournament finish away from ranking as a Junior Master, which sounds much more impressive to those who don't play bridge than those who do).

Where's the Cart Girl?

Since golf season has unofficially ended up here, hunting season fills the gap for most of the winter. I move back and forth between PA. and NY. to hunt throughout the seasons.

Also, without golf as an excuse to be busy until dark on every nice day anymore, it's time to get back to the gym 3-4 days a week. Most prominent additional endeavor is yoga now. Met a girl who got me involved in it and I'm willing to commit to it for a while and see what happens.

Aside from these, crawling my way out of college loan debt is about it. But really everything else is just taking up space between golf trips over the winter.

Guitars - been playing for over 20 years now.
Saltwater Aquariums - I have a nano tanks with corals.

Both have taken a back seat since my daughter was born last December. I barely have enough time for golf during the summer. I'll play more guitar during the winter.

my daugter was also born in Dec....of 1980 !!!!

Love the Les. I've had two over the years. Always hurt my back when I played standing too long. Great tone though.

My two main guitars are a Taylor Made 810 and a PRS PS#297. I'll see if I can find pics. BTW, I'm a lefty, which as been a curse and a blessing.
