I hit the most greens I ever have on Sunday. I hit 10 greens and had 6 great birdie opportunities. I made three of them. I made three in one round before but never like this: I hit a 6 iron from 174 to 3 feet, a 58 degree wedge from 98 to 2 inches and a 8 iron from 155 to 2 feet.

Made all those but missed an easy 4 footer for birdie and another 6 and 10 footer.

Anyway, it was fun. Wish my putter would have showed up. I shot an 80 and didn't make a putt over 3 feet.

Just made an iron change and really excited. I have been very vocal in threads about the iron change and how much it has helped me.

Only thought I had was to take the club straight back in the take away.

Now the golf season is over and I am playing better than I ever have (at least iron play).

Very nice. With three birdies, it sounds like you had a few double bogeys. What hurt your game the most?

Putter. I didn't make a putt at all. I was invited to a club I haven't played at much so I was not used to the greens at all. I three putted twice, didn't get up and down once. Didn't lose a ball.

Not necessarily? 3 birdies nets a 69 so he could have shot 11 bogeys, 3 birds, and 4 pars?

Possible, but I'm betting 1-2 blowup holes.

I had virtually the exact same round a couple weeks ago. My irons were very good, my putting was terrible. I don't think i had any birdie putts under 3 feet, but I had probably 10 or 12 in the 10-15' range. I ended up shooting 79, with a double on 17 and a double on 18. What is driving me nuts is that I am JUST missing these putts. 1/2" left or 1/2" right and I can't fix it.

Yeah you can! No secret that putting is the most difficult facet of the game... and misreading putts by fractions of an inch happens to the best players. Keep putting and putting and they will start dropping.

generally I am a fairly descent putter, but for some reason this year I am having problem either reading the greens or with my stroke. The puts i used to make consistantly, I am now just barely missing. Also this year there has been a few puts that I was just flat out wrong on my read. So if I read 3' break to the right, it was only 1' or even worse, 3' the other way. It really does have me stumped. I am getting older, (mid 30's) but I have some strange things going on with my game now days?

Well even the best tour pros have trouble keeping their putting consistant year-in and year-out... heck even tiger has stretches where he goes weeks or even a few months with bad putting. Just have to keep at it and sooner or later you will get over the hump.

80 is a good round for a 10.5 handicap especially on a course you're not use to. I don't think you should feel too bad about your putting, maybe you were being too aggressive or conservative (one or the other). I know if I play a different course where the greens are faster, missed putts really get away from me if I cant gauge the distance right.

but wtf you hit a 58 degree 100 yards!!

Congrats Lefty, Im glad to hear those 775's have helped you out a lot! I bet it has boosted your confidence over the ball quite a bit too!

I just made an iron change to the MP 57's and shot an 80 as well today! I am just as psyched as you are!

No birdies though (no double either), missed a whole bunch of opportunities though!

Live and die on the greens!

It was down wind a bit and that is the max I can hit it without trying to hit it too hard.

I am very excited about the play. I did have 3 doubles. The putting is not really a concern. It is very hard to putt on greens you aren't used too. They are much quicker than I was used to so I was tenative. They are also pretty sloped from front to back so I just wasn't agressive at my up hill putts. My short game and putting is typically my strongest part of my game. If I can combine that with some good iron play I think I can really drive my scoring average down next year.

Really happy for you. It is exciting to finally play the way I expect too. It only took all year.
