wedge?

i just bought a new set of nike sumo irons friday and the pw is 46* and the aw is 50* i'm looking for another wedge what degree would ya'll recomend i should look at and what brand i don't mind buying used just don't want to spend a fortune

i would say 54 and 58, the vokeys are great wedges.
otherwise you could replace the PW with a 48 degree vokey (and then bend it to 47 if you see the gap from the 9 iron is too big), replace the AW with a 52 and then use a 56/58

Id go with a 56*. What brand to get is really a matter of person opinion. A lot of people are partial to Vokeys, but theres lots of great wedges on the market.
Im partial to Mizunos because they are Mizunos and because they are forged (they have great feel), but your best bet is to go to the local golf shop and try out as many different wedges as you can.

Another thing, shouldn't such a high handicap be using just a PW and a SW anyway? I'm a high handicap down to 21.7 with this setup and I am just starting to feel like I am losing strokes by not having enough wedges. I dunno, it's just the idea that I have been told that having too many choices with such little experience can lead to disaster.

So given that, I'd say just go get a high bounce 56* and start learning how to get the ball out of the sand and not skull your chip shots.

A lot of people think that high handicappers shouldnt carry a lob wedge, but Ive always carried high-lofted wedges and never had a lot of trouble hitting them.
Id start out with a 56* and then once you get to where you can hit the 56* pretty well add a 58* or 60* to the bag.

My opinion is to stay away from a 60 but 56 is a great degree from most lies.

56*. I play nothing but a 56* and I don't think I really need anything else. You can do much about everything around the green with a 56*. Just master it and you won't need any more wedges.

- A 56 degree sand wedge.

i have a big gap becaus i do not have a gap wedge and i have come up on shots because i had to use a sand wedge

i found a 55 degree wedge that matches my irons on ebay for $30 so i'll let you know how i like it

BB,

Would consider a 54º and a 58º if you want two, or a 56º if you want just one. Also, try to find clubs that fit into your upper-end yardage gap. Cleveland has lot of CG12 wedges (a couple of years back) on clearance.

If you could find a high-bounce 56º sand wedge - used - this might be a way to start. The 58º or 60º would be a lob wedge, a club that's hard to hit for high-HDCP players. Might wait until following year for this, or maybe try a friends before you buy one.

Also...
Why not create a sig line with a "what's in my bag" listing? That way, other posters can see what you carry in your club mix, how you approach the game. This makes it easier for us to make comments tailored for you.

Go in 6* incaments which would be 56*. IMO the 56* is the most versitle club in the bag; works for all kinds of stuff. Also, if you learn how to open the face up and hit the ball well you can forego a higher lofted wedge. As for a LW, its a specialty tool. IMO the LW works well in the bunkers, especially thin and/or hard pan bunkers, or when as little roll out as possible is needed, like when one short sided themself.
