Yea I am diffently going to be watching. Will be interesting to see how Watney holds up against Tiger.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

Is anyone else laughing at the announcers because they can't figure out what the "S" on Ryan Moore's hat stands for? Every time you get a close-up of his head the announcer says, "I can't figure out what it is. I think it stands for the San Francisco Giants.I bet the people in California are hating this. "

This is turning into the sort of showdown we've wanted to see for years. Too bad it's happening while 90 pct of American golf fans are asleep. Nice treat for me, though, since I work late and normally watch golf reruns at this hour. It's cool to have live golf on.

It should be an interesting final round later tonight. Woods and Mickelson, plus a few of my personal favorite players (Moore, Westwood, Kim), all in the mix for the win.

I had to look up the meaning behind the "S" myself.

The answer only further solidifies my opinion of Ryan's awesomeness.

I was a bit surprised that they wasn't able to identify the Scratch logo.

Tomorrow will be a great round, Phil seems to be in great shape and mood. Hope both he and Tiger bring out their A game tomorrow.

It's running live from 4AM here, I might just get up and watch it. Sending a rerun at 2PM, but it's not the same. If I need more sleep it's finished by 8-8:30, so I can get some hours in before noon.

Personally I couldn't stop thinking about how big an idiot he looks like out there. I guess that skater/pothead look appeals to some people, but if you ask me, he looks like a real dope.

It appeals to me, I think he is a great breath of fresh air. Every young person who sees him is pleased to see someone chill'n. Women my age think he is adorable. He is not thugged or tatted up, he seems the personification of a focused young man doing his thing. Kim, Gay and Poulter are the ones who look like a circus sideshow. Phil Mickelson is still one of the creepiest people on the tour, I really do not like watching Phil play.

Wow, what a crazy last day.

Starts with Tiger +4 on the front 9.

Then within 5 minutes:
Phil sweeping completely under a flop shot on 16, failing to advance the ball.
Ernie after a marvelous round to get into the lead by 1, hits it into the water 50 yards short of the 18th green.
Tiger duffing it into the trap right after Phil's blunder.
Phil holing a 30 footer for a crucial par on 16.

Can't wait to see how it finishes up. Still to come: Can Ernie drain his long par putt to hold the lead? Can Phil birdie the par-3 17th or par-5 18th to win? Can Tiger finish birdie-eagle to tie?

Man, if this was on a Sunday afternoon on CBS, even if it weren't a major it would go down as one of the most dramatic final rounds this year.

Well, this certainly was entertaining. One of the best finishes I've seen this year. Lots of players in contention, I would have loved to see Ernie take it home with a great 9 under on the last day. Rory also with a -9 today, great golf, he's really the real deal. Nice to see Kaymer, Westwood, Quiros, Molinari and Kjeldsen up there.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
