sandpaper on grips?

Can you please explain how this sandpaper on the grips works???

I've read the several posts on people doing this after cleaning their grips. So I thought I'd try it on a club that has been sitting in my garage. But it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do. The grip is nearly as smooth as a baby's bottom. Did I do something wrong? Is there a certain grit that people use?

It's a temporary fix for worn grips at best. Wash grip, dry it and rough it up with a fairly coarse grit paper.

Use some really coarse grit sandpaper.

Also, it only works on cord grips.

i do it, with both cord and non cord grips.

it just gets rid of the outside layer of the grip which gets a bit hard or loses its tackiness, then you do the warm dishwashing water.

every 4th round for me, not sure why its four though. havnt tried the sandpaper yet. does anyone know if it will get my tour velvets tacky

i use

You guys are funny. I get the hint. Just go get my clubs regripped.

You need to wash your grips every one or three months, depending upon how much you play/sweat. Use mild liquid soap and warm water, and scrub with soft-bristled brush. Be sure to rinse grips in a separate bucket of clean water.

When your grips start to show wear marks, then it's time to get them replaced. Also, if you have a 7-iron or a PW you overpractice with, that grip may need to be replaced more often. Good time to regrip is just after Christmas: lots of golf shops have specials then (grips + installation). ---------------- ALSO: If you eat candy bars while you play, you could get chocolate and other junk on your grips, which will attract sand and grass bits to the grip. ---------------

If you realize that the grips are starting to go just replace them, but I have known many people who will keep a small sanding block or piece of paper in their bag in case they need a temporary fix on a trip or in a situation where you can't re-grip right away.

take towel get half of it wet with really hot water and keep the other half dry

wash the grips off with the wet side and dry them off

dont get kethcup and shit on your grips after you eat hot dogs at the turn and your good to go

I learned the sand paper trick watching a YT video of Fred Couples showing whats in the bag.  He has carries various grit sandpaper and now so do I.  Give it a try!  If its good enough for Freddie it should be good enough for you.

I use lamkin crossline grips - I go over them with a wire wheel & it brings them back to 100% new feel.
