So a question to all of you who have hit these two shafts(or not)

I have a 09 TM Burner with a proforce 65 S shaft and a 08 Tour Burner with a VS proto 60 S. Both drivers are 9.5.

The proforce is mid launch and the proto is a low to mid launch(per web site kick point data)

So I hit the 09 burner much lower and it has a much more penetrating ball flight. The tour burner tends to launch higher a balloons. The 09 Burner goes about 25 yards further every time. Very interesting.

So my question is what do all of you think may be the cause of the difference. I did a ton of research on the VS proto before hand and really thought it would have a lower ball flight. Of course the heads are different but if anything I would think the tour burner would have a naturally lower flight.

Thoughts.

Thanks, DR

1st off, just because the heads are stamped 9.5* does not mean that is the actual loft. They could be off a little or a lot, you'd have to have them measured to be sure. 2nd, is the ProForce a V2 or an older PF 65 gold? I know you say V2 in the title, but then PF2 in your OP. The original PF 65 was a seriously tip stiff shaft, more so than the V2.

I play a VS Proto right now in My gamer and have a hand picked 10.5* head. That launches true to loft with mostly carry. You May want to get the lofts checked on both heads to find out exactly what they are, that could be the problem. Even tho' the tolerances say +/-1* I have seen them to be off as much as 3-5* believe it or not. I have played the V2 and found it to play stiffer in the tip section and with less feel/boardy than the VS Proto from My personal experience, not a fan of the V2 at all.

I believe the easy answer is that the Proforce has a stiffer tip and a higher kick point. I have played both and the Proto is uncontrollable for me, in that it has too much play. I accelerate pretty hard through the ball though so its all about your style and personal preference.

i really like the V2, ive got that in my ft-5 and a vs proto in my titleist 3 wood. the V2 isnt as low launch as what people think.

the V2 just might suit you better, my bad shot is a snap hook, i have never snap hooked the V2 but have with the proto

  • 2 weeks later...
I play a 70 Gram V2. It took me a while to get used to it, but now I can literally feel the shaft load up on the backswing... it is like the thing is telling me "Ok, I;m ready to come down now." Just unbelievable control, ball flight, distance. Took work to get the tempo of it though.
