your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is? - Page 3

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

In case no one is watching it looks like all the young studs like long courses and us old goats like 63-65 hundred yard courses. My rule of thumb is if I can not reach the par 4's with a iron then I am playing from the wrong tee box.

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

I'm pretty comfortable around 6700. My home course is about that. I shot 75 from the tips yesterday so I'm happy with it

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

There's a 6001 yard course here that I really enjoy playing. It's just the right amount of challenging for me. I've had my best ever score on it, an 88, so I'm always looking to break that when I play there.

I've played as long as 6800+ and that was just an awful, awful decision. I had only been golf for three months and didn't know any better or about playing the correct tees. I was smart enough to pick my ball up on basically every hole when I was taking too long. Never again...or at least until I'm half-way decent at this game.

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

I've never really thought about it until now. The longest set of tees I've ever played was probably 6800, and I didn't score well, but it wasn't because of the length. I have never played a course from the tips. Might have to try it in 2010. Local muni is 7200 from way back there. As far as most comfortable? Can't answer that. I would guess 6300-6600.

yeah but you drive the ball 330... well, depending on which thread we're talking about... another one said 270 ... just giving you a hard time, couldn't resist it.

Me personally... I like to play 6400-6800 usually. That being said, one of my home courses plays around 7000 from the tips, and it really isn't much different than playing from the box at 6500. Another nearby course has tees at 6500 and 7000 and absolutely kick my ass from 7000. It just depends on the courses and the way different holes are setup. The hard one has long par 3's from 7000 and a couple rediculous par 4's 450ish. On the other hand the easier 7000 course balances it out better and just adds a little length on many holes... 1-2 clubs up for the par 3's and more mid-irons into greens, but no real ass-kicker holes.

On some courses dropping 200 yards will help a bit (taking a bunker or two out of play, making a par5 reachable), but on other courses it makes no difference. 200 yds is only 11yds a hole... so basically almost a 1 club difference... usually not a big deal.

Hahaa I was expecting it from someone sometime soon....

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

My home course is called The Mill. It's a county park course. I believe the tips is somewhere in the 6400 yd range. I have played the tips a few times. But mostly we play with my fiances dad and her uncle, both able to play from seniors tees, so we just play from the whites and she plays the ladies. I like the layout of the course. I don't think yardage matters much to me. I am usually more worried about the width of the fairways.

6400 - 6600. But I feel like I would only gain a stroke or two if I played from 6900 - 7000.

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

Par 3 < 180 y

Par 4 < 420 y

Par 5 < 550 y

I think it will be those 6700~ 7000 y course

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

Tough question, but interesting.

7,000 to 7,200 yards is about right for par 72's. However, course design makes a generalization about length difficult -- what if restricted landing areas come into play, or long forced carries? A 6800 yard course can play long, and a 7300 yard course can play relatively shorter. It depends on many factors as you guys know. For example, a 470 yard par 4 followed by a 130 yard par 3 adds to the same distance as a 210 yard par 3 and a 390 yard par 4. Pine Valley (NJ) is less than 7,000 yards and plays much longer. Augusta National is 7435 yards but plays much shorter than this length because of holes like 9, 10, the par 5s (except for 8,) and only one long par 3. Hole 5 at 455 yards plays much longer than 10, a 495 yard par 4, for example. Hole 11 at 505 yards is only 5 yards short of Hole 13, a par 5. Elevation is a huge factor as is the firmness of fairways. I'm not sure the actual yardage is the main factor that determines how long a course plays. I've played some 6,600-6,700 yard courses that were real tests of longer shots.

Your question was what is comfortable... and my answer is, "It all depends on the course."

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

I have found that courses that are 6200-6400 yards are fun to play and usually require me to use every club in the bag. I live very close to sea level and average just over 250 off the tee.

Re: your most comfortable 18 hole yardage is?

I used to play a walking course with only 6100y.

I would not say it is very easy but i can take out the woods and hybrids from my bags and still shot a high 70s.

The Par 5s are about 500y and the Pars 4 are 310 to 390y.
