I need help. Maybe a rehab clinic or something. I started playing this game in 1989 but quit after a couple of years and took up fishing. I own a really nice bass boat. 2 yrs ago I moved to Ohio from GA and left my boat down there at my mother's place. Not being able to fish I decided to get back into golf. Big mistake. For the past 2 yrs I've played golf every day unless it's raining or snowing. Last month I decided to go down to GA and get my boat. I put a bunch of money into getting it ship shape for fishing. It's sitting in my garage ready to go. I've been fishing one time. Caught a huge Musky, BTW. Other than that, every time the weather forecast looks like a good fishing day I get up and decide it's also a good golfing day. Today the high was 32F and windy. I was the only fool on the whole golf course. Shot 91 in spite of the conditions. Pretty good for me. Tomorrow it's supposed to be mostly sunny and 42F. Great day to go Sauger fishing on the Ohio River. Where do you think I'll be? Duh. On the golf course. I can't wait to get there. I plan to shoot mid '80s. Want to buy a boat?

You could use it for pitching practice. I bet that boat would hold a boatload of golf balls.

If you think you are hooked now, just wait until you start scoring lower scores. I play in heavy rain if given the chance.

just one question. why would you ever want to leave georgia and move to ohio? unless of course, you're from ohio.

I'm also a Presbyterian minister. I answered a call to a church here. I guess God didn't consider course conditions before calling me here.

Oh, and ks8829, I know what you mean. I can shoot low '80s when all the stars are in perfect alignment. Most of the time I do good to break 90. I always head to the first tee wondering if this will be another low '80s day. My goal at the beginning of this season was to break 80 at least once. Didn't make it. Yet. I have played in the pouring rain but I try to avoid it. I've also played in the snow. One day last winter I teed off on 1 and it was snowing so hard I could just barely see the fairway from the tee box.

Yes, Hello Forum peeps;

I'm Kraemer and I too am a golfaholic.

Just started this October--but now I am totally consumed on GETTING BETTER. After 2+ months
and about 16 rounds; I suck! Shooting between 94-107. Had some good days where I shot a 42
for 9 which was epic-- but not now in the subZero temps; and uber-wet courses-- and Goose poop;
I'm not seeing the light. Took another lesson last weekend and can now whack the driver straight
about 254 about half the time. Have made a few birdies, some pars, many FIR/GIR combos; but seem
to always come in 2 - 3 over for each hole.

Not sure what started the bug; but I've got it baby-- Bad!

Hello.

I too am a golfaholic......made worse by the fact that I've only played two rounds in over two months.....I'm going nuts. New driver on the way an evaluating some new fairway woods, too. Things are looking much better schedule-wise for January golf!!!!!

I also have a boat and 4 wheeler in the garage.....guess how many times I've been fishing or hunting in the last two years (since resuming golf after a 5 year layoff)???? Zero!!!!! 4 wheeler is being sold this week!!!

From Georgia to Ohio.....wow....that is a serious change in climate.....too bad you couldn't spend your winters here and summers there. You'd be single digit handicap for sure.

Welcome to this forum. Lots of fun reading and posting here.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
