What shaft did you choose for driver?

Hi all,
I am looking for a new shaft to get that little more distance and just had an analysis done on my swing. The pro at the store suggested I need a shaft 45 3/4" with frequency of around 248 and 55-60 gram. She suggested I go with Graph Design since it seems to fit me the best by specs.
So I just wanted to get some feedback on what shaft did you choose for your driver?
Please let me know what your club head speed was and the frequency of the shaft if you know it. Just wanted to make sure I choose the right shaft.

I would go with the Graphic Design. Just don't over-think it. If it fits you specs, go for it.

I chose the stock shaft Fuji E360 for my driver – regular flex with a mid-bend point for moderate ball height. Checked it out with five other drivers on a launch monitor. Like you, I picked a shaft which fit my specs. My old driver had a low-bend “high launch” profile which delivered a 19* launch angle – a bit too high.

A local clubsmith cautions that changing the shaft on a driver may really change the feel of the club. This is especially true if the shaft comes from outside the "design" family for that particular club. Swing weight adjustments may be needed.

Next, there’s the matter of frequency matching. FM involves measuring the oscillations of a shaft which has been flexed and released. Shorter shafts oscillate more than longer ones. The idea is to get a smooth increase in oscillation from long to short clubs, up and down your club set. So, I’m not sure knowing the frequency of a single club is that helpful. Also, FM supposedly doesn't help much if the shafts don’t meet the golfer’s swing profile. Can any clubsmiths help on this one?

I've got a Fujikura Speeder 757 X in my driver now. It's a bit like swinging a 2x4 but it's a nice shaft. *I do need to edit my sig line since that is my old driver.

Sorry, cant give you any info as far as buying the shaft based on frequency goes. I went the complete opposite way (with the driver, that is), and did it based on feel and observing ball flight, and comparing it to the results from others. I ended up going with a little heavier shaft than what you're looking at, but there is a sweet spot where it's not so light that you take it back in an uncontrolled manner, and not so heavy that your wrists droop too much at the top of your backswing.

Did the fitter give you the opportunity to hit anything else besides the GD? Always heard they make great shafts, but in my opinion, it would be a good idea to hit a wide variety of shafts and see if you end up preferring what the fitter said. If the GD she recommended makes your top 2 or 3, buy it. If it doesnt, maybe get a second opinion

I chose the Fujikura Rombax 7Z08. It has a very low torque, and the weight is good for me, the 8Z08 was a little heavier than I would have liked. The kicker those is its very high kick point and thusly low trajectory. I hit the ball very high and have a fairly high swing speed (128+ on average) and I needed a low piercing ball flight.

A pro fit you based on your personal static and dynamic results. What do you expect to find out beyond that?

You're going to get tons of opinions and conjecture...non of which was based on what the pro was able to see firsthand. Either take her recomendation or go to a different pro.

I actually tried about 7 different shafts with different frequency, weight, and length and what she recommended was the best fit for my swing. Apparently with the shaft I had which was a stiff but specd out to be a x-stiff, my club head speed was low. I did get that little extra head snap at the impact.

Thanks all. I really just wanted to see what people thought about Graphic Design was a good shaft and also how people more experienced then me on this board went about choosing the right shaft.
Sounds like I'm going the right way about it. I have always played with the stock shafts on my drivers but now that I am a little more knowledgeable on the game, time to get all corrected .

Also, does the Mid kick point vs. Mid-High kick point has a big difference? I have no problem getting the ball in the air so which one would I go with?

GRAPHITE Design shafts I've found play soft compared to other shafts in the same categories. I've played the YS and YSQ seies and found them tho be soft in the tip and allow for more spin. If you don't have a problem getting the ball in the air, I would probably go with something with a stiffer tip.

You would just have to compare the two. Mid-high kick would give you a mid-to-low trajectory. It depends on part whether you rely on the shaft to control height, or if you alter height with stance changes.

MidK vs. MidHiK is "too much choice" for most golfers.
