Re: Tampa golf lessons??

Thanks Erik, I actually went to that site, but there is no feedback on any of the instructors....

Im looking for someone who has actually taken lessons in the area and with who, and what they thought....

I wish there was some sort of site like this.

Do all teachers get some sort of training before they teach, there is one guy that works at a course I play at sometimes, hes a PGA apprentice but he teaches and his prices are very reasonable.

200 bucks for 5 1 hour lessons.

No, they don't. They get some training in the PGA way if they're in the PGA program or are a PGA pro, but you don't even need to be a PGA pro to be an instructor. Most are, but a lot of what you learn in being a PGA pro has nothing to do with how to swing a golf club.

Re: Tampa golf lessons??

Jim,

I've launched a site called www.findyourgolfpro.com that will eventually be able to give you the information you're looking for. At the moment, there's only a few pros registered (none of which are in the Tampa area unfortunately). However, if you do find a pro that you'd reccommend (or not), get them to register on the site so that others can find (or avoid!) them in the future.

Re: Tampa golf lessons??

You can also just call or visit Tampa area courses and talk with their instructors. You may have to try a couple to find the right person for you but I would think there would be some very good teachers in the area.

Re: Tampa golf lessons??

I will be starting with http://www.johnescochranegolfschools.com/home.html next week.(my xmas gift) They do it as a series of 5 1 hour lessons (not sure if I am getting a better rate for being a member)

I can say he put on a free one hour chipping clinic for women and my wife's play around the green has greatly improved.

In New Port Richey, only about 40 minutes from Tampa International Airport

He's a great ballstriker and an excellent putter. Very laid back father, he will spend some time hitting irons on the short range (max 220 yards), then he will take you on the course to play situatuons on different holes.

But like I said...great guy, course is below avrerage..but it's not a dump. He will take you to the good holes, some elevation holes. Course is a tight course, old course.

reasonable with the rates.

Re: Tampa golf lessons??

I would highly recommend the guy who owns Blue Collar Golf in Largo, Florida. He is the real deal. Was there on vacation and just happened to stop in his shop to see what they may have. Got to talking with the owner and asking about some custom built clubs. He asked me to take a few swings in the shop and then asked me several questions. Do you wear bifocals, etc.

Have had 15 lessons in the past 2 years and no one asked me about bifocals. He then gave me a few tips and asked me to hit a few more balls. Could not beleive the difference his tips made in my contact and ball striking. Guy spent the next 40 minutes working with me because he said he just likes to help people have a better golf experience.

Thanks for the replies! Any idea about this guy's rates before I give him a call? Sounds promising.

Re: Tampa golf lessons??

I'm taking a 4pack of lessons right now in Hudson. Just north of NPR at the Links golf course. My instructor is Ray Cisbani and I've never taken any other lessons before but to me he seems very good. He's calm, patient, and changed my game significantly. I'm taking lessons with playing partner and a 4 pack of 1 hour lessons is 195 for a couple. I believe it's 160 for an individual.

here's a little bio I found on him from google

Summerfield Crossings (Big Bend Road, South Hillsborough County) Scott Wickham has helped me a lot

Matt Mitchell and Brian Moore at Tampa Bay Downs are good - I've never had lessons but attended clinics during the annual golf festival and I think they can get you on the right track.

Pat Walsh at River Wilderness (Bradenton) is also very attentive - and can really help you with all facets.

Go see Matt Mitchell at The Downs driving range. He is the best in the area.
