It was windy here in P.A today with a wind chill of 15 degrees but i was bored and figured i would hit some practice balls out front. Critique my swing and let me know if you see anything. Im not swinging full speed so you can refrain from swing speed comments.

First thing that jumps out at me is that I feel like you have your hands too close in to your body. General rule that I learned and try to stick to is that you should be able to make a "thumbs up" sign with your hand, touch the heel of you hand to your belt and touch the tip of your thumb to the top of your club. I could be wrong but from the few times that i watched both videos I feel that your hands are much closer to your body than this. When I have my hands too close it tends to predispose me to slicing the ball...get those hands in your "power zone" and you'll be good i think. Also, looks to me like you're swinging pretty damn hard...if this isnt full speed then I'd hate to see what is :)

I use an overlaping grip, tho you cant tell from these videos. It was 15 degrees and i didnt even put a glove on. I ran out with my Fiance hit 2 balls and ran in. Im trying to look in these videos and from the looks i think i just gripped and ripped. Anyway im not worried about my grip its my swing.

Thanks for your feedback. My misses are not slices tho. My iron misses are a 5-10 yard draw left of the green. My driver misses are a big hook left. Im not a slicer i have a hook problem. What im thinking is with my hands being close to my body im comming a little to much inside to out with a square club face. Causing me to hit that slight draw left. Im going to hit the range either today or tomorrow and get some videos of actually full swinging on some real balls. Thanks again.

If you look i kind of have the same set up as Paddy. Tho im not comparing myself to him as a golfer just the set up. I wonder if his misses are also a draw left?

Sorry guys for the multiple post. I need to learn how to multi quote. Yea that swing is about 70%. My full swing is a little faster. I have good club head speed through impact. I tend to dip my head when i swing to hard. In the summer i get an average drive of 270-280 yards. I hit a small Par 4 at Cohanzick country club in Fairton New Jersey this year 313 dog leg left. Rapped it around and greened it. That was one of my best Drives this season.

looks pretty decent. Are you replacing siding in 15 degree weather? Yikes!

Yea, were actually having a second floor addition put on. We got a new front bay window and the whole house and addition are getting new siding. Luckily im not doing it, a friend of mine is doing it. Today its even colder with wind gusts up to 45 mph and a windchill in the single digits. Luckily there not working today.

Re: Hit some practice balls today outfront. Critique my swing.

I have another lesson with my S&T pro next Saturday the 9th. I feel like im still leaving some weight on my back leg. My arms and swing feel great just got to get a little more weight on the front leg. Im going to try to hit some balls before then if these ranges around here open back up. For some reason they have been closed, its not a holiday anymore. Going to hit some balls set up a inch or two back further from the ball. Im leaving some strokes on the course with the few draws i hit left of the green. I normally save myself with a great flop or bump and run at the pin or a nice putt but i would like more birdie opportunitys on the Par 3's. Im a long course player and get most of my Birdies on Par 5's and 4's. Im also noticing that im having a slight move in these videos over the top. Im not sure if it is because i was freezing and rushing or because i set up closer to the ball but that has never shown up in any previous videos of my lessons. I should be able to get this figured out by the end of my next lesson. Just hoping these ranges get back open a.s.a.p. I havent hit a real ball in 2 weeks.

When it's cold (I'm from south Florida, so "cold" to me is <60°) I regrip the club during my swing. I start with an overlap, yet somehow end up with a ten finger at the end of the swing. Maybe you regripped it? It's very highly possible that in that weather, with no glove, you did it too. That's what people might have seen.

Re: Hit some practice balls today outfront. Critique my swing.

With your fast SS with your driver you arent getting to your left side on your downswing which results in your power hook off the tee. Work on setting the club at the top...with a slight pause before attacking the ball...this will allow you to start rotating your hips and get the club started on a good plane to hit a straight/slight draw instead of the rope hook...or pull hook. I know as I do the same thing. At the range, try to open your hips way early and you will start pushing/fading the ball...then you can just dial it back until it works...another thing on your back swing, you seem to be a little restricted...try taking the club back with more extension/space between your arms and body. This will put you in a better position to attack from on the downswing with your aggressive swing.

AHA. There is the speed I've been lacking. I mean I hit 270 280 regularly but after a 7-8 year break I forgot about that small tip that used to get my drives straighter and over 300... Thanks. Going to the range tonight. Its 75 here at night so....
