Driver A- I am hitting around 65-70% of my FW's most days and I'm not short.

Iron B When it's on look out, but some days make me wonder.

Short game C Just not enough practice, especially later in the year.

Putter C+ I am retooling my stroke (using an arc stroke now, learning to release the head better)... but I am moving in the right direction.

Overall game B- Just need to work with wedges and get back to how I was, and keep making headway with putting.

My game changes from day to day so one day I hit it good others I don't

Driver D - Hitting it far but OB
Iron C - Can have the occasional shank and slice.
Short game - A Get up and down from 20 yards in most of the time. Wedges are pretty good
Putter B I sink most short putts and long putts that don't go in are normally tap-ins
Overall game C If I can work consistency into my long game I'll get better.

Driver - B- - Had periods where it was AWESOME but other periods where it still got out there but not necessarily in the right direction. Probably should be a higher grade though - it never hurt me so badly my scoring was atrocious because of it.
Iron - B - It takes a lot to be an A for me.
Short game - A- - Despite not practicing it much, simplifying really helped me this year.
Putter - A - Always pretty good, and got better this year with a newer grip.
Overall game - B - I'll do better in 2010.

Driver A- ( I can put it down the middle most of the time its just a matter of how far.)
Irons B- ( Need to dial it in a little more)
Short Game C ( Need my most work from 60 yards in.)
Putter B (Need to be more consistant)

Driver - D- - Overall a pathetic performance here and if not for a few rare rounds of good driving this would be an F. I know I can do it...just a matter of getting it figured out and being consistent.
Iron - C - Had some good days and had some bad days. Got better as the year ended.
Short game - B- - Got much better late in the season after watching Phil's DVD a few times. Made my best shot ever this year with a 54* in my hand.
Putter - C - Averaged about 2.15/hole this year. Not too bad but a recent lesson should really improve this quickly.
Overall game - C - For someone of my ability I may be grading myself harsh, but I think this gives me somewhere to go.

I have begun lessons and just had a complete custom fitting, so 2010 is looking very bright!

This is all pretty relative to what you compare yourself against.

Driver - B+ I have decent length. 240-260 yds. Biggest advantage is I keep the ball in play.
Iron - C Inconsistency is where I struggle here. Balance is one of my issues.
Short game - D I have no feel but I'm actually decent out of traps. I leave myself a lot of long putts.
Putter - D I'm trying a lot of different techniques. I struggle with speed.
Overall game - C

If I could learn to scramble and putt, I think I could easily get down to a single digit handicap. Like most players at my handicap, consistency is the killer.

Driver: B+
if including my 3 wood and Fybrid in this category I do okay from the tee. It's very rare when I can't reach a hole in regulation (or less) and hit few balls OB. Most of the courses I play aren't too penal just off the fairway.

Irons: B
Just because I can reach the hole in regulation, doesn't mean I do. I'm really confident in club selection and I'm getting better at controlling my misses. Near the end of the season I had quite a few birdie opportunities.

Short game: B+
Since putting has it's own category, I'd grade this aspect of my game well above average. This takes experience and creativity, but it also takes some common sense. When I work on getting the ball rolling on the dance floor as soon as possible, using whatever club that requires, I seem to make a lot of pars.

Putter: D
My nemesis. This is easily the weakest part of my game. I simply can't line up properly with a putter like I can with irons and woods. More likely to drain a putt using a 2 iron or a driver. I was starting to get it together near the end of the season after picking up a Cleveland Classic 2 and setting up with the blade flatter (farther away from my feet).

Overall game: B-
I've got game. I just need to grind better to get better scores.

Driver - B- - I'm either on fire and can't miss a fairway or I only hit 3 or 4; there isn't anything in between. I can put some distance on the ball, but my directional control isn't always the best.
Irons - B - I can be off and on with my irons. My one big strength is that I'm very comfortable hitting a long iron into greens and am just as consistant with them as I am shorter irons.
Short Game - A - I've spent the last 6 months or so devoting the majority of my practice time to my short game. Lately I've been deadly from anywhere around the green and with pitch shots from 100 yards and in (if you include that last part within this category).
Putter - C+ - The is the weakest part of my game. My long putts are usually good, but I don't have any consistency with anything in the 5-15 ft range. I won't even go into my tendency to miss that random 18 incher.

Overall - B+ - I know I can be better than I am right now. I think the key to getting better is in my putting, so lately I've been driving my wife and dogs nuts putting golf balls all around our living room trying to groove my putting stroke.

I had a really lousy year as far as consisitancy. My distance has increased with every club for some reason but other than that I was wild and didn't play very well. Had no rounds in the 70s. I expect better. My short game wasn't as good as it used to be. I did putt the ball pretty well this year.

Driver- A- Best driving year ever I even hit 10 fairways in a tournament later in the season
Iron- B Struggled a bit early came on better at the end of the season
Short game- B+ Most improved part of my game worked very hard on this
Putter B- Still working on the Utley method getting better all the time
Overall game B+ Got to the lowest handicap index I have ever carried +0.9

Good year for me, only blip was 3 putting the last green in the Club Championship to lose by one shot. Had 6 underpar rounds in a row this summer and only had one overpar tournament round in my last 5 tournaments. Not too bad, but there is always room for improvement.

Usually the best club in the bag, but I need to be able to work it both ways consistently. I would not mind gaining some distance this year (I carry it 260-270), but not a necessity.

Iron C-
Definitely the worst part of my game, but if you ask for a grade for 7-PW it would be A- but the 3-6 would be a D because my distances are not consistent at all.

I am working with a new, more neutral grip, this year. Hopefully this will help me be more aware of my club face throughout the swing.

Short game A
I can get up and down from anywhere! Not really, but I have a VERY strong short game.

Putter B-
The new Rife is helping me roll it consistently, but I need to work on the position of the ball to my eyes and make more one putts.

Overall game B

I score well because of my short game, but when I begin controlling my distances with the irons and making the putts I am supposed to (inside 8-10 feet). I will be close to scratch.

Driver: B - its usually pretty solid, i always get it out there far enough, but sometimes i can get on a roll of missing FW, when that happens the 3 wood comes out and that goes pretty damm straight!

Irons: A- - love hitting irons, pretty much always hit gir unless ive put myself in trouble of the tee! distance control with the mid irons could be a little better, i spend a lot of time at the front and backs of greens!

Short Game: A- - tend to be able to get up and down out of most situations although bunker play could be a bit sharper

Putting: B- - last year was pretty ropey, mostly due to my scotty being away getting a refurb. im a pretty safe 2 putter but i dont tend to hole much outside 8ft and let the odd 4ftr slip by

Overall game: B+ - there is a lot more to come from me in 2010 (when i can actually get back on the course!), need to sharpen up the short stick and the mental game could use a bit of working on!

Driver: B- Keeping it in play for the most part and it's long, but still too inconsistent to get an A.
Iron: C I have periods where I'm on fire...I haven't had one of those periods in a while now =(
Short game: A- Probably the most improved part of my game. 80 yards and in.
Putter: B+ I'm not making the 30 footers, but I'm making a lot of 8 to 12 footers.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
