Ping I3+ irons

Back in 2005, I played a round in Kapalua(aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!) and rented the I3+ for the round. For my handicap, or as bad as I play(which is not really my iron striking), I hit the ball well with these, they felt great and I like the simple, yet very nice, look of these too. I remember as of a couple of years ago, they were still available from Ping. I will call them to see if this is still the case. Anyway.... would anyone know how they would compare to the new Ping irons, as far as technology, forgiveness, workabilty, etc? Ok, I'm sure the newer irons are most likely much more advanced as far as technology, yet would there be a huge difference in playing the I3+ compared to any of the newer ones: I5s, I10s, I15s? As I've stated I mainly like the I3+ looks, compared to any other Ping irons. Would it be worth spending the money on them, or spend that money on newer irons?

Just go with what feels right to you man. The i3+ and i10 irons are relatively the same, just cosmetic changes, however the i10's are closest to what you're searching for. The i3+ has a lowered face surface for more consistent ball contact and improved playability from a wide range of lies and conditions; the i10's are designed to appeal to golfers who prefer the look of a smaller, blade-style club but still rely on the forgiveness of a cavity back, and the center of gravity location creates a low, penetrating ball flight. You will have similar feel from the i10's, like I said, they are just the updated model. By all means try the i15's but personally for me, the cosmetic changes don't suit my eye and the longer irons are a bit clunky looking. Make sure the club appeals to your eye, because if it doesn't, for some reason it's a mind thing, and you won't be able to really hit your club. Just go out and find what feels and looks right to you. Don't worry, PING irons are an investment and last for years! Good luck on your search.

Hey Pingman, thanks for your input. Like I said, I love the looks of the I3+. But I called Ping. They are available, yet for $150+ a club retail. Forget that. Too much money for 5 - 6 year old clubs. I will demo the I15s.

3balls.com has a set of used I3+ irons right now for $229.50. I've bought from them a couple of times and can vouch that they're a good company.

I owed (briefly) a set of I3+ blades and they felt great. But they were a little beyond my ability so I sold them and bought some G5s.

      I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
