I know, I know, I'm a 20 handicapper and these are to much club for me, but I picked them up anyway for $284 at the local Golf Galaxy in very nice condition. I figure if I can't hit them I can always sell them for a little less than I payed. Since getting serious about golf last year I have been looking to upgrade from my 13 year old Wilson Prostaff Midsized irons. I pulled the trigger yesterday and took the 7i and 6i to the local range today. I was astounded at the feel I was getting from these two clubs. 37 degrees and hitting rock like floating range balls I could work the ball left and right with just a small grip/alignment change. I was also getting a more boring ball flight and significantly more distance. 7i flying 155-160 which is long for me. Granted most of my shots came off of a mat, but when noone was watching I hit a few balls from the grass and was getting the same results. The good shots felt like they had never felt before.

It all wasn't good however as the mishits were punishing to my hands. I don't wear a glove, but may have to think about it especially at the range.

Anyway, I can't wait for warmer/drier weather to hit the course with these. It's gonna suck for awhile engraining new club distances into my brain.

Lovely clubs!

I took a 6-iron (from the ZB set) out for 18 holes last year and loved it. Given that I play off 28, I felt I had some reasonable success with it. I normally play X22s, but the lower trajectory of the ZB was actually preferable, and honestly my mis-hits with the ZB were no worse than any other club I've tried (a crap swing is a crap swing, regardless!)

Truer words were never spoken. Maybe my hands hurt because I hit 200 balls for the first time since October.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Dad-2-3,

I'm waiting for the hammer to drop. LOL

As the season goes on I would like to drag this thread back to life as an honest assessment of a high capper's first experience with "player irons".

Don't fire at sucker pins, aim for the front 1/3 and middle of the green, and don't attempt low percentage hero shots. You'll be fine.

As the season goes on I would like to drag this thread back to life as an honest assessment of a high capper's first experience with "player irons".

I've been playing these irons for a couple of months now, long enough for the honeymoon phase to be over I believe.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Perhaps it's all in my head, but I believe I hit these irons more consistently than my old irons. I believe these have made me become a better striker of the ball as well. Don't get me wrong, I still have issues with my game, but the irons are not the cause. I have made a lot of changes to my bag since this thread was started and I'm shooting better scores by 6-10 shots per round especially over the past 4-6 weeks. I probably can't give sole credit to the irons, but in no way have "player irons" made the game more difficult. I guess my point for dragging this back to the top is to tell the high handicap to not let someone steer you away from "player irons".

Couldn't agree more. I've been playing i15 irons for about three weeks, and can honestly say I find them easier to use than the G15 equivalent.

You can count on these clubs improving your game. You mentioned that miss hits hurt your hand? Well, that is what these type of irons will do. They will instantly tell you that you hit the ball "badly" which promotes you to focus and hit the ball good everytime. These irons won't "hide" a bad hit. In my opinoin, others may disagree, playing with irons like these are one of keys to improving ball striking for the 10-20 handicap player. Enjoy!!
