Top Flite Gamer v2?

Anyone play these yet? They claim much better durability.

How bout distance? Comparable to any other 3 piece out there. I know their D2 feel were about 10-15 yards less off the tee than other comparable balls...

How bout stopping power on chips and approaches??

Im interested in this ball, just seeing if anyone has played it yet.

It isn't saying a whole lot, but i have found the original Gamers to be the best non-urethane golf balls out there. Good distance, about as much spin as you are going to find in a surylyn covered ball, and good durability. I haven't tried the v2's yet, but i doubt that they'll be a huge difference.

Thanks Jamo, is it enough spin to one hop and stop a 50 yard shot? How bout 100 yard shot...

This is the most important thing for me in a golf ball. I need it to stop when it hits the green as Im very aggressive on approach shots and greenside chips.... Checking is important to me.

no offense, but I completely disagree with durability... the old gamers scraped about as easy as anything I've played in the last 5 yrs... other than that they were great balls. They would one, maybe two hop and stop, and they would spin back a bit from 100, and most importantly still had some check around the green. Hoping this version is MUCH more durable.

Check around the green is a key thing in a ball for me..... Good to hear that I can chip aggressively and not be punished.

Say the v2's are durable. What ball can they be compared to, spin wise? An NXT Tour?

Maybe not quite an NXT tour, but no where near an NXT Extreme. If NXT Tour is 10, and NXT Extreme is 0, the Gamers would be about an 8, i'd say.

You play the CG 12's with the Zip Grooves, those things will tear up any ball. But seriously Surlyn is an actual brand (as apposed to urethane). I don't think it changes much from ball manufacturer to manufacturer. The durability should be that of any Surlyn ball. I mean, i don't have any quantifiable data, i'm just assuming. In my experience, the durability was very good.

Haven't played original Gamers except a few found in the forest, but D2 Feel was my main ball until this past spring. D2 Feel was great, except it appeared a little short off the tee, and was rated clearly in bottom half in distance for the type of ball I played.

I could get neutral stop with short irons (hit, skip once, and back up a little), and check up with a couple feet of release for longer clubs. D2F especially good around the green, could get one hopper wedges - check with a little release - with a slight cut shot. Really liked it for chip - runs and putts.

On limited use, Gamer didn't seem that much different from D2Feel.

Players with more clubhead speed than me might get better stop, spin back. (Driver ≈ 85 mph)

My 6 iron swing speed is 85 mph, (as measured on the mizuno shaft thingy) not sure how that equates to driver swing speed... but what your saying is the faster your swing the better performance you will get out of it??

I guess I should just buy a dozen and see.....

I use gamers to practice with most of the time and I can usually get one round out of them before the cover is totally ruined. They are really good around the greens and distance is good but the cover is a real downfall. If the V2 plays the same with a more durable cover than I'd say they have a winner.

Well, not sure if they are surlyn? Website says ionomer. I know I have played other ionomer balls that last longer. The zip grooves can dig a bit, but they aren't new wedges and they don't dig like Cally wedges or even new Vokeys (from everything I have read)... and I would say most golfers play one of those 3 wedges, so that's really not the issue. I have heard MANY a golfer say how much they love gamers minus the fact that they rip apart, and that was certainly my experience with them. I switched balls at the turn when I used them.

I do agree that they play about like an NXT Tour, actually I liked them a bit better, which is saying something because the NXT Tour is one of the best all around balls I have played that is not $40 a dozen. Just a note... at first I was liking the D2 feel, felt great. However, it seemed short SOMETIMES. I would make excellent conact and be shorter than I thought. At first I thought it was winter since I am always a club or 2 short in the cold, but last time out I hit them side by side with some older balls I used to play, and the D2 is a short ball for me. Just thought I would mention this since others have said something similar.

I'll reaffirm everything said here. The Gamer is a great ball in my experience except for the cover. I got good distance and control with this ball, but would literally pick pieces of the ball out of the grooves on my irons - and not just the wedges. If the new version has a more durable cover without changing the characteristics, I would definitely give them a shot.

Nope, haven't tried these newer Gamers. Hope they don't shred as easy as prior version.

I thought the original balls were okay.

Love the original, and was sad to see the Gamer on closeout. I might have to buy a bunch at $17.50/dz.

I noticed that they're advertizing the price by comparison to other balls' MSRP, putting the Gamer at $29.99/doz. Looks like it was so successful they're just going to rerelease at a higher price. Then again, if it plays like the original but doesn't get ripped up like it (I'm a sllow swinger and I destory em) I'd be OK paying an extra buck a ball.

Just bought 2 dozen of the V2 at Target 2 weeks ago for $13.00 each. Couldn't pass it up. They don't seem to tear up any more than any other soft ball.

Nope, I'm with you on this one but I think the modern "ionomer" covers are a softer variant of Surlyn, hence decent spin numbers. For me, the original Gamer was good apart from durability. The cover was one of the least durable I've hit in recent times. If a new version has a more durable cover (and maybe a slightly softer feel on short game), I'd be interested.
