It's been a while but I used to race 1/8th scale buggies for Mugen. Been almost 10 years though but had a blast when I did it. Even travelled a bit with the mugen team to races in south Carolina and vegas.

I couldn't imagine paying for rc cars and golf haha. Both are extremely expensive hobbies

Expensive!! You're not kidding. I ran 1/10th scale mod. oval, 4 cell oval, and 1/4 scale gas oval for about 5yrs back in the late 90's, and I can tell you for a fact, that it is much cheaper to run a regular car at the local track each week than RC's. I ran a sportsman car on half of the budget I had for running rc's. I did travel a bit with the rc racing, but cost was rediculous.
As with ay other racing you just have to keep spending to keep up, and just spend a little more to go a little faster. Golf is by far much cheaper.
All that said, it was a blast. The guys I traveled with were some of the greatest people you could ever meet. You always had a good time at the races as well when you went out to party a little afterwards.
Like anything, It's ok in moderation!!

Have fun and Live Life!!

Totally agree....my brother in law has five buggies and truggies, since he has owned and raced them for roughly the same amount of money we raced a front wheel drive car and a top level go kart.

Yup, I've had RC cars since I was 12. Ya, that was 1983. I had the Grasshopper then Frog and then a Hotshot, which I still have and I also had one of the first gold tub AE 1/10 scale buggies. I always had one, but started racing 10 years ago. I finally quit 4 years ago because it was getting to expensive to compete every weekend and keep up with all my hobbies.
I still have two Revo to's bash around, an AE 1/10 GT2 (when they still raced 1/10scale) and a Crawler. But the money sunk into these damn things is amazing!!
Golf is cheaper!!

Just out of curiosity I checked the price of a new AE RC10 chassis, ouch they were $359.00 on sale.
I will just keep playing golf. Those were good times though.

I run on road cars in the winter (12th scale and World GT). I used to run buggy and truggy in the summer but it got too expensive. It is far less to run on road pan cars and they are silly fast.

Me too, used to run offroad electric and gas, then got into electric sedans/pan cars. Next ran nitro 1/10 sedans and 1/8th scale. Managed to place in the top 40 at the Nats in sedan and top 20 at the Nats in 1/8th scale 6 or 7 years ago. Had sponsors, etc., but got married and had some children, so just didn't have the time to put into it any more. Golf is time consuming as well, but not nearly as bad as RC Racing was, especially when you have sponsors and need to keep up with the competition. I have to say sometimes, golf may be even more challenging! Currently trying to get rid of all my old cars (memories....), of course to use the funds for more golf crap! LOL!

I use to have several, but transitioned over to RC Planes. I started with a RC10 and a Kyosho (I think) in Camp Casey, Korea in 1994. I did recently see a Traxxis Slash 4X4 that I would really love to get. Have any experience with that one?

Just out of curiosity I checked the price of a new AE RC10 chassis, ouch they were $359.00 on sale.

YOU AIN'T KIDDIN', r.c. stuff has gotten out of control! A bunch of us who race full size cars in the summer used to run the Dirt Runners indoor series in north Jersey in the winter.

Some of the guys, like my son went for a bunch of classes, some were sick fast. They ran one class ( modified turing 4 wheel drive ) 2 rules- had to have a 1/10 scale turing car body and a 6 cell limit. He started out with a Losi XXX-S , an 8 turn motor, 6 sets of batteries with a.h. numbers 3000 points higher than most people knew existed ( and cell matched to 3 decimal places ). We ran on a flat carpet oval about 2/3 the size of a basket ball 1/2 court and twice he ran 100+ laps in a 4 minute race! The club stopped running the class for safety reasons and because the guys running in the class were tired of dropping 4 tires, a set of motor brushes, ball diff with rings and a spur gear in the trash every time the car was run. Not to mention cutting the commutator after each run (3 cuts and the armature is junk). After 6 charging cycles the batteries began to " fall off " so he sold them and built new. I on the other hand, stayed with 2 " spec " classes until the club made both classes "brushless" Now I have to buy brushless motors, they need a brushless type speed control. The new batteries I need to make all this new stuff fast can't be charged on my chargers. SCREW THIS - I think I'm going to work on my I.M.C.A. modified this winter! WAIT A MINUTE! I just remembered, I have a box of chain saw engines I got at an auction. I have a 2 acre back yard! I can weld up a bunch of 1/3 scale modifieds and sprint cars! Invite the guys over! My wife will kill me.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

Did he do any of these things? How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
