I am going to have to make this decision pretty soon. I have the Titleist 503H which I NEVER, EVER hit because of the V2 shaft on it. I absoluetly love the look of the club but, let's face it, that shaft just stinks for me and gives me no chance of a strait ball path. I am at the point where I am not going to reshaft it unless I know I can hit it. I have always hit my 3 wood pretty well and I am thinking of just getting a new 5 wood probably with a blueboard in it as I think I would just be more comfortable at this point because I basically took out a 2 yr Hybrid loan from Titleist at this point.

Check out the specs for your V2 shaft on the Golfworks web site:

The 65 gr. and 75 gr. versions have Hook correction - would that cause you problems?

i like woods over hybrids any day. easier to shape, no draw bias.

I am the opposite. I do like my 3 wood, however I can hit any shot with my 19* hybrid. It's a TM rescue dual with the movable weights. It will be hard to knock this out of the bag.

yeah, i've got the same club, but without the weights. i have to open up the face wide and damn near come over the top to fade that thing.

I played for a long time with a 4 hybrid instead of my 5 wood, and actually didn't mind. I just recently started swapping them back and forth in the bag, trying to decide which I actually like playing more. I still haven't decided, honestly, I hit them both about the same most of the time.

now if i hit my 4 iron 200 and 3 iron 210 yds, what club u think i could hit 230? any hybrids? maybe a 2 or 3 hybrid? or maybe a 7 wood?

3 wood = 0 hybrid. 5 wood = 2 hybrid. 7 wood = 3 1/2 hybrid. 9 wood = 5 hybrid. Those are the

general gapping rules. Also, a hybrid needs a little less loft to equal a fairway wood, and a little more to equal an iron. So, a 17° hybrid would be about equal to a 18° 5 wood, or a 16° 2 iron.

I recently picked up a #2h, and love it. Fills the 230 niche perfectly and is easy to hit from fairway and rough. I really can't tell a lot of difference in ball flight except for the hybrid hit pops up quicker, which seems to be the case with hybrids anyway. They play well off the tee too, I have no problem shaping shots with it.

I went with 3 wood and 3 hybrid. I love my burner 3 wood but the hybrid is great for longer shots out of the rough. I would go with the hybrid just to have an easy to use long club. I have found lately if my woods are failing me(or if i am failing them) my hybrid works for me. It nice to have the option.

This is gonna be the big question for me this year too. Last year, I experimented with a number of 5W's. The plan for this season is to try out all the 2h's & 3h's I've accumulated over the winter. I want to decide whether an 18* hybrid will be a good replacement/option for a 5W or maybe 7W. Lord knows I have scores of new clubs in the spare room to test out before I make my final decision.

I am currently in the process of redoing my entire bag (except for the driver) as I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery and have some time on my hands...one of my dilemmas is what to do with the gaps at each end of my new set (signature reflects current bag)...do I go to the 4 wedge system or do I go 3i, 2hy/5W, 3W. I think I am going to go with the 4 wedge system as the PW on the i15 irons is 46 degree and I am going to go with a 50, 54 and 58 wedge set up...this means then I am going to go with 4-PW and put a 20 degree hybrid in the bag to kind of be my 3i, 2i/5W...as I think the hybrid is more versatile then a 5W from this perspective...just my 2 cents.

I-guy,

Nice set up you are working up. On the 4-PW and 2h/5W set up, I have found to be better served with a Drv.,3W,2h,3h,4h then 5-PW. The 4h, is very workable, even from the rough. What I like best about having the hybrids in the long iron slots is that they check the ball much better than a iron. Don't toss the irons, play the 4I and the 3I in windy conditions to keep the trajectory lower, but in this circumstance during normal calm conditons; the hybrids really seem to work well. Good luck on your recovery!

if you have problems hooking the ball, look for a hybrid with a little less offset, like a Cobra Baffler Pro. I picked one up, and it's easy to hit straight and to fade. I never used to fade my TM hybrid. The stock Fujikura Speeder is nice and heavy too.

I-guy,

Thanks for the input but I really struggled with this decision (not having a 3 iron) as one of the strengths to my game is hitting my long irons well but I wanted to be covered from 130 yds in as I struggled with this part of my game in 2009 (becuase of gaps) and for scoring I have decided this is more important...I mean how often in a round do you hit your 3 iron or 2 hybrid versus being in wedge distance? So therefore I have made my decision and we will see how it goes as I really think the 3Hy (20 deg) will give me what I need at that distance...

I played with a PW/UW/SW/LW setup in my G10s and found that the only time I seemed to pull the Gap wedge out was when I needed a 110 yd shot (+/- 5) but for nothing else, so when I built the bag I'm currently playing I dropped the UW and went PW 46*/SW 52*/ LW 58* or say staggered the wedges 6* rather than 4* each. This has worked much better because I did add the 2h in the slot of the UW.(My HI will start coming down soon, I found a fix for my putting problem) This seems to be a much more playable combination since I only tend to use two clubs for most of my short work. I also seemed to have a large gap from 3i/3h slot to the 3W, and from time to time no real good way to cover the 220y. shots. Which for some reason is where I quite often seem to find myself needing to hit a shot. I notice that you are in Fla. and the irons may be the better choice for you for the breezy conditions there.
