One of my friends has a set of Callaway Diablo forged irons that he's been using since last August. Strangely, the ferrules on most of the irons started getting pulled from the hosel by a few millimeters. They're not loose in the way that you can move them, but they've got out of the hosel and they won't move up or down anymore. It's happening with varying degrees on most of the irons. It's not affecting playability, but this certainly shouldn't happen. Does anybody have experience with this?

It sounds to me as if the shaft is slowly dislodging from the head. Are they the originally shafted sticks? Could be deffective epoxy. Do you have the possibility to have them inspected by the shop where you got them? If not, get them to a local clubmaker.

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

I have FT's and one of my players have x forged, and both of us are experiencing the same problems. As for mine the ferrules are the problem, seems very common for Callaway, not sure why...

I've built a few sets of clubs, and ferrules are prone to slipping. You can put a little epoxy on them before installing them, but I usually just snug-fit them with the clubhead. I've a few slip away from the head for whatever reason. Never been much of a problem.

However, last year I was playing and I noticed the ferrule on my wedge had moved away from the head (or so I thought). On my next swing with the wedge, I hit about 3 inches behind the ball. I didn't think I had made a bad swing, so I looked at the clubhead. It had slipped about an inch down the shaft. So the ferrule hadn't slipped, the clubhead had come loose. The epoxy on the head had failed. Poor workmanship on my part, I guess. That's the only time it has happened to me, but I have seen guys on the range send a clubhead shooting off into the distance.

I have sent an email inquiring about this problem to the Callaway customer service. Still no reply though.
It would be understandable if their ferrule'd irons have this problem, since they usually use these small rind ferrules on most of their irons.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
