Hey all, here are a couple driver swing videos. Any constructive critique is welcome. My swing is a work in progress right now, but as of late things have been going well across the board. When things start to get loose, my driver is the first to go. Thanks!

Not quite sure how constructive this is, but here goes. I think that your swing is a combination of two things. An exceptionally natural and athletic golf swing which is fundamentally very correct, fluid and potentially effective. On the other hand, elements of it are a tad mechanical. I don't like that "measuring" thing you do to find the ball position or the stiff armed waggle. If you can get your initial setup happening with a bit more flow, by being a little bit looser, and relax those knees a little, I would say you have the makings of a very fine golf swing.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I can't help wondering!! On the first video, I heard the ball hit something. On the second video...where did that ball go to?? I didn't see a net..so.....just wondering! I watched it 4 times...and couldn't tell!! Other than that, your swing seems very balanced..but a tad stiff armed. I would love to be that flexible in my upper body! Must be an age thing!

Decent swing... Looks like you have a very solid takeaway. I really cant comment on the transition or follow through because you were obviously decelerating to keep from plopping the ball into your neighbors yard.

Errrr serious question, what's with hitting golf balls off into your housing estate?? I've seen this a couple of times on this forums where some people have hit balls down their street etc? Don't your neighbours get upset?? :P

I was hitting wiffle balls. The first one catches the top of the fence, and the second one clears the top by a foot or 2 and lands about 10 yards into my neighbors back yard (the house is vacant, but when it was occupied the owners were okay with me retreiving any that sailed over). I didn't know it was a problem that people hit real balls around houses or I would have clarified. Sorry for the confusion.

Looking at the video I can see what you mean about how rigid I look. It doesn't feel that rigid, although part of the purpose behind it is for my arms to be similar to how they would be at impact because I've struggled hitting the ball off the heel quite a bit.

What are you seeing that leads you to the conclusion that I was decelerating? I didn't intend to, so if I was it is something that I need to work on.

Not bad... I would have thought you better than a 14.8 HC. My thoughts:

- I like the simple, efficient swing. Not a lot of extra moving parts.
- You take the club inside on the backswing by setting your wrists very early. Start with a shoulder turn first, then set wrists both vertically and horizontally at the point you lift the club up to the shoulder plane.
- You never quite get the club high enough. From the DTL view, the left arm should at least block the right shoulder from view. If you do this, you'll hands will be a little higher and slightly closer to your head.
- You have some good stuff going on in the downswing -- the hip bump and hands drop to about the right position initially. However, it's at this point that you need to get your hips and shoulders turning more and leading the rest of the way. You continue with too much arms and the result is that you stand UP a bit trying to get leverage and your hands pass your shoulders very soon after impact. You want to take the little bit of momentum from your arms at the start of the downswing and use rotation of the hips and shoulders to accelerate them and pull them around. I think the proper feeling most people are missing is that you should feel partially sideways to the ball at impact. It's not really at impact, but for good golfers, it happens much sooner after impact then it does for higher handicappers (who may never get there).

Good luck.

Agree with the others. Swing looks very balanced and has a good rhythm. No critiques though- I'm not good at that.

I agree with tihs point by Rexx... this makes the swing look a bit flat IMO.

i'm sure alvaro quiros has heard the same thing. point is, it really doesn't matter how high you get the club if you've got a good quick hip turn/slide and lots of lag, which the op obviously does. swing looks fine to me.

Many thanks to those of you who have replied. The votes of confidence are as helpful as the critique when the swing starts to get a little out of control. I lose confidence in my driver pretty quickly.

I had my first ever lesson today and the instructor's main thing for me to work on was just what Rexx said. He said I need to work on rotating through the ball. It was good to come home from that lesson and find the same advice given to me on here.

Regarding the flatness of my swing, if you saw it a year ago I think you'd prefer how flat it is now, to how steep it used to be. I looked like I was trying to pound the ball into the ground, and therefore had quite a few problems to overcome that came along with that. Also I separated my shoulder a little while back, and keeping my arms low helps with that.
