I started playing golf when I was 9 years old and played through high school and college (not good enough to be on the team, though). I quit when I got out of the service when I started my career and family. No time to devote to golf. About three years before I retired I started playing again. My claim to fame is playing the Old Course at St. Andrews in 1968 and getting a 3 on the Road Hole. I wouldn't trade that for a hole-in-one. Two holes-in-one. I like to play old parkland courses. Last year I self-published an instruction book titled Better Recreational Golf.

I play in the mid-low 80s and break 80 a few times a year. Golf is my chance to do something athletic and have fun with friends.

Where do you play: Mostly Parkview (unrated, sand greens, and notorious for eating golf balls), and Thompson Lake Regional

Best courses you've played so far: Alderdale, Cape Breton, NS

Things you enjoy most about golf: Constantly improving my game, being outside and getting exercise.

Goals for 2010: Play more rated rounds to get my actual RCGA handicap index instead of guessing. Practice more. Get better. Did I say practice more?

Favorite Club: 8Iron, I seem to be able to count on it the most.
Golf Books: Hogans 5 lessons, Pennicks little red book, Haney's essentials of the swing, and The Seven Principles of Golf: Mastering the Mental Game On and Off the Golf Course (Darren Gee). For fun: Planet Golf, Planet Golf: USA, and Golf 365 for some of the most beautiful courses and best pictures in the world. (If plan A fails, I would love to be a course photographer).
